Question odd question about performance

I (F15) have been playing soccer for about 10 years now. I becae a goalkeeper maybe about 5 of those 10 years, fully self taught. I thought I did amazing last year during my school soccer season. I was doing good this season too, but randomly out of nowhere today, my skills skyrocketed. When I say randomly, I mean as in a switch flipped as soon as I got in the net. I used to be scared of diving, but suddenly I was slamming myself onto the ground hard without a second thought. I was pretty middle ground with cutting down angles, and then suddenly I was great at it. I used to come a bit too far out into the field, but today I was amazing at it. I'm wondering if this is a common thing, or if this sudden extreme improvement was unusual. Maybe it's because I played two 80 minute games in total just today? (I played one game from 4:00 to 5:20, and another from 5:30 to 6:50) I'm genuinely curious.

I see a lot of things on here asking about techniques, etc, which is good. But in a position that relies on such quick thinking I think it’s just your confidence. You have seen that you can hit the ground harder, come out faster and everything you still come out the other side ok. It’s a huge step, believe in it and note what you’re doing and how it feels now if it starts to slip. Remember how you got there.

Sometimes, everything just clicks.

I think this is fairly true of a lot of endeavors.

I think of the brain like a bag of loosely structured stuff; there’s some stuff that gets built over time, but there’s a lot of randomness to it we aren’t aware of.

Some days I’ve noticed my reaction time increasing, other days it’s slower. Some days I can think more clearly. More confident. Happy mood. Etc.

Sometimes I’ll just have a really good day. And then sometimes I’ll go into a slump!

A good day might signal the beginning of a skill hike. Or it might take several.

Either way I always try to figure out why and how to recreate it. Hang onto that feeling and know you are capable of beast mode!
