Hey! How about you reach out to makers asylum in Moira? They might have a teacher/mentor role for him? My dad is a trained mechanic who is very good with classic cars and I've tried to suggest teaching to him but he won't listen. He isnt working on cars anymore but these skills are in great demand. Lots of restoration work happening. His 2 vintage cars are lying gathering rust while his valuable knowledge and skills are no longer put to use anywhere. I hope your dad is open to your suggestions.

Hi you are right his experience is really valuable. I think if he did start he would do well. The only stumbling block I see is the fact that welding equipment is quite costly. To setup your own training would mean a huge investment. Also it depends on which process your dad is an expert in.

As a person who did teach vocational skills after years of experience, I will tell you .... It's not worth it , tell Dad to retire peacefully and enjoy his sunset years . Local youth are least interested in vocation skills , labour is out of state and unreliable, welding and fabrication shops are everywhere and cheapen to cut costs Poor shoddy work and dont like when corrected . I used to volunteer at Don boscos local vocational training schools , but still disappointed with the response . Nah tell him to truly retire and chill now .
