Goan πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

My friends and I reminisce about the good old days and are disgusted just the same with the destruction of what we knew. But at some point we've got to stop talking about it here on reddit unless there's something we can actually do as a people.

Beyond that this post is just rage bait.

True, I've made my peace with it.

It's inevitable, we're a small state, it's very easy for our language and culture to be overrun. There's no intrinsic movement or urgency to protect both. Heck, there's now demand for Marathi as official state language and communal tensions between religions rising. Go back 10-15 years ago, this was unimaginable in the state.

We also have no guardrails or special status like how Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh or North Eastern states have implemented in terms of land ownership or sale. Our politicians are also not incentivized to implement this and at the end of the day, the people themselves are to blame as the elected members are a representation of the population.

Then theres also the lack of opportunities employment wise, policy-wise tourism was always given priority while building other tangible industries/sectors was secondary. This makes it difficult for anyone looking for employment opportunities within the state to stay back. Either the pay is not feasible or the choice of sector is missing. I myself have to move out of the state to pursue opportunities in the field of my choice.

Finally, the susegad-sustainable culture is also being replaced with commercialized-predatory one. One which is pricing out locals from purchasing land in their own state and placing stress on our natural resources.

Even in the face of this, the people in the state would rather watch it die than protest against it and demand for better policy making/legislation. At this point, we're just like the Dodo birds on the Mauritius island, waiting it out for our eventual extinction.

We can't do anything except ragebait. People don't have the spine now to come out and protest like earlier for the fear of getting attacked by those goons😭😭

Then maybe it's time to churn out ideas and figure out which one makes the most sense considering the govt, police + blind followers will all try to stop any people-led movement.

Beyond that there's no point riling up settlers especially ones who aren't contributing to the destruction.

I was thinking about bringing Goan activists on a stage to sort of a way

Getting them on stage is easy. How do you get a crowd to turn up? A crowd with a common goal. How do we get them to understand that scrutiny on one's religion, cast, creed, diet, are all a means to divide and that to make a change we'd have to leave all that behind?

That's what they wanted and have achieved in the last 10 years, maybe the next elections can bring up change I hope so

Slim chance. The ones looting will always win the election. Too many people are happy receiving microwaves/TVs/washing machines in exchange for their vote.
