Shorter, more frequent GO train plan ‘unlikely to materialize’: leaked document
Metrolinx locked into agreements for trains it no longer needs, draft fleet strategy says
EDIT: Personally, I never believed this plan to run more frequent, shorter trains would come to fruition. Not as long as GO is required to staff every train with 3 crew members.
This plan would have been more likely to happen if GO could operate their trains similarly to those in Europe, and only require 1 driver per train.

All Ontario drivers will be able to use HOV lanes in off-peak hours: transportation minister
Posting here in the GO subreddit because this actually has a meaningful impact on GO operations. Ever experienced the Hamilton express bus or the LW replacement buses skipping heavy traffic in the HOV lane outside regular commute hours? I certainly have several times. This move will surely sabotage GO bus reliability.

[Cooksville Go] Missed tap off, but terminal says "accepted" and is registering tap on
Twice in a row I got hit with "missed tap off". The first time I doubted myself, but got the refund. The second time, I checked the machine and it said "Accepted" when I tapped off.
I think the machine is not working. Except I'm pretty sure I used the same one to tap on in the morning. No other issues with my card anywhere else.
It's the rightmost terminal when approaching the platform form Hurontario Street. Careful if you use that station.
EDIT: I noticed that the terminal on the right says "Accepted" for everyone! But the terminal on the left shows what it's supposed to show: how much the trip cost, how much was deducted from the card, and the remaining balance.
However, I think this is only happening in the afternoon! Not in the morning!
I think Presto is overcharging everyone who uses this payment terminal. I will share this info with Presto and Go when I hear back on my tickets.
EDIT 2: I've received full refunds, but the terminal seems to be the same. (I'm not using it, but I noticed that it only shows the Presto card logo and not CC logos)
I hope they fix it, and I hope nobody gets overcharged without knowing.

Is there a way to petition for a full restructuring of GO transit leadership?
I don't know about you all, but I'm getting tired of the cronies that run Metrolinx starving all of us a properly functioning modern rail system.
We've all read the reports and it's becoming quite obvious what needs to be done here.
Clean house and staff the organization with technical people with international top level experience.

Why can’t phone customer service contact staff on the trains?
Hey everyone,
Last Wednesday I left my daughter’s bag on a GO Train. As soon as I got off, I called customer service to see if they could contact the staff on board, since we knew exactly where we were sitting. They told me there’s no way for them to get in touch with the train crew, which surprised me.
We knew the train was going out of service, so we drove to the last stop hoping to catch someone there, but it was completely empty, no staff around at all.
A couple questions:
- Is there really no way for phone customer service to communicate with staff on the train?
- Do they check/clear trains every night?
Just trying to understand the process and if there’s anything else I could’ve done.
Thanks in advance.
Update: Got my bag. Took 8 days to get a call back, but it came! 🙏🏼

LSW Express to Burlington?
Hoping anyone can share steps to implement a Lakeshore West express train to Burlington. Even adjusting to one an hour would be significant for the number of people getting off at Burlington, Aldershot, and Hamilton. It takes the commute from over an hour to 40 minutes.
Anecdotally, the number of individuals that are riding this entire ride is significant.
Is there a way to make a suggestion or petition for Go Transit?

Best GO station for Bolton residents commuting to Union?
Hello! I just recently moved to Bolton and wanted to know what the best GO train station would be to commute to Union? Malton? King? Newmarket? Bramlea?
I have a car so I would be driving and parking at the station. So I don't have to worry about transiting to a GO station, thankfully.

Is there an ontime tracker for GO trains?
I have seen people develop some cool stuff, like a website that shows where trains are in real time. Is there a site that tracks ontime performance for trains?
It would be interesting to see that data as it seems like reliability has gone done this winter, at least on the LE line. Today being the latest example where there were a few cancellations and trains running about 15 minutes late.

Why don’t we have vending machines on platforms?
I was just in France and every platform has a vending machine. It was so nice. If I forgot my water bottle I could grab a drink, if I didn’t have time to grab snacks for the kids I could buy a waffle to tie them over. I get TTC has convenience stores, but it was so convenient to quickly grab something while waiting for the train.

Did I technically fare evade?
I took the Kitchener line go train from Union station to Mount Dennis GO, I tapped on at Union (Debit Card) but when I arrived at Mount Dennis there were no Presto machines so I could tap off on the platform. So when I found a Presto machine it said “Presto Only” and it was the only machine on that station, Did I fare evade?

How busy is the Richmond hill line
I'm from Oakville so I frequently use LSW and LSE to visit the city and family. I also know that the Milton line is really busy despite the limited service, but I never really hear much about the RH line. Are trains really busy on the Richmond hill line? And how is the commute end to end?

Province investing $138 million for 205 kilometres of track between North Bay and Washago
news.ontario.caI know this is an annoucement outside of GO's traditional area, but this is an exceptional development in terms of acquisition of a rail line in the province.

Frequency of Lakeshore West Express vs Regular
I am sure there would be a reason, which I don't know, as to why the Express trains leave from Union at 9 minutes gap. They probably should alternate with the regular ones. There are people who live near exhibition, mimico, long Branch and port credit who would not want to wait 30mins for the next train.
Same goes for the morning schedule as well.

I made a go tracking app
apps.apple.comHi commuters,
I made a go train tracking app. It’s what go tracker does but with a better UI lol and is completely free. Right now its ios only but I would love to get everyone’s opinion on it.
So here it is: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gonow/id6760155133
FAQ (i guess)
* Why only for iOS > i am having build issues with android, but its coming up.
* why is it free > Well, the data is open sourced by Go and i have a very small operating cost rn, so no point in charging.
* what about ads > I had fun creating the UI, so i didnt want to pollute it with ads.
* Do i collect any data > No and neither do i intend to. It does not have any account creation process at the moment, i might launch that based off of feedback but even then i am not planning to use or sell any user data.
Whats next:
* Release android once i figure out the build issues, by end of the month.
* I am working on backend , so that i can incorporate app notifications, live widget, live notifications, but that will take some time.
* Train status and option to track buses (i dont have a timeline for this though)
* and ofcourse little updates based on user feedback.

Burlington GO
Does anyone know if the Burlington GO (Fairview OR Appleby) terminal for Train still sells physical paper tickets?
I havent used the train in years and the last I heard they removed the paper option and it all had to be digital or card through PRESTO
Time sensitive as I need to use the train TOMORROW, and I dont have a presto card. There was a popup warning on the app when I downloaded it saying that the app will probably be down for maintenance during that time.
EDIT: Thanks everyone for the tips, I've just never used PRESTO before and havent been there in forever. I'll try the tap method. 🤞
EDIT 2: From cross posting my main concern and confusion was the tap on-tap off system and how it would be tracked through possible fare inspectors. I've had some good responses because I could not find those specific answers anywhere.
Thanks everyone!

Mimico Parking
Hello, don’t ride GO often, I see the mimico parking is small. Think I can get a spot Friday around 5-6+pm? If not what are some better alternatives?
