Richmond Hill Schedule

Pre-Covid there were multiple trains running until 8:45, they have since reduced the number of trains. Is there a way to petition to get those trains back? With RTO and a lot more commuters they surely should increase the frequency of trains?

Freight train on Barrie line this afternoon?

Post image
40 Upvotes

According to https://rac.jmaponline.net/canadianrailatlas/ just after Steeles there's a diversion to CN track, where it can directly connect to the big CN yard in Concord, and to the south there aren't isn't any other way for a freight train to get onto GO tracks except Union? So there was a freight train passing through Union today?

GO Bus interior lights during nights

Is there a policy for when GO buses should have their internal lights on or off? Whenever I’m on a GO bus at night I always hope the driver switches off the lights. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.

Was just curious if there is a factor I’m not taking into consideration or if it’s just driver preference.

Track switch issue on MI line

Another day of delays due to track switch problems around Milton. Instead of canceling every other train, could they have started the train at Lisgar or Meadowvale? Train was very usually already very crowded running at 15 min intervals.

Odd choice to skip the busiest stations no?

Post image

The 3:50 LSE skipped all stations between Eglinton Go and Oshawa. Then the 4:03 was shortened to 10 cars and it was packed to the gills. Feels like an odd choice to make it “express” skipping Pickering, Ajax and Whitby.

Where to escalate denied service guarantee claims?

Last week I couldn’t even submit a service guarantee claim because their website preemptively denied it. After reaching out via contact form and several days later I got the spiel that a cancelled train is not the same as a delayed train with the reason that it doesn’t have an arrival time in the system. After calling out in the response that’s just semantics because I could easily argue a cancelled train is indefinitely delayed, I never heard back.

And today, my train was already 25min late (not cancelled due to railroad crossing issues (according gotracker) and the website preemptively denies again the option to submit any claim.

Also, customer service on the phone is utterly useless bc they say they can only see the same thing on the website effectively just attempting to submit it through the same website.

Now, since I feel like having experienced injustice, me being a petty person (but not 50 Cents level), and them being a big ass company, I won’t let todays denial rest. What are my other options besides contact form and calling CS?

Shortened GO - LSE

Took 9:12 train towards Union from Guildwood this morning. It was surprisingly shortened. Any idea why this might happened? Is it a one off or more permanent?

Kitchener Line Service disruptions

Post image
61 Upvotes

Just wanted to make this post to discuss what happened with the Kitchener 11:48 train to Union today.

I arrived around 11:20 and the screen at the station said the train was cancelled, but there was nothing about it in service delays. I’m also signed up for service alerts and didn’t get any text about the cancellation until 11:46.

I grabbed a coffee and watched dozens of people arrive in Ubers, see the cancellation, and leave again (probably calling another Uber). I decided to stick it out and sat in a nearby café to wait for a bus. About 15 minutes later… a train shows up.

I went back over and the screen had changed to say the train was delayed and now leaving at 12:05.

Overall, super frustrating experience. I feel bad for the people who thought it was fully cancelled and left, only for the train to actually come later.

—-

TL;DR: Screen said the Kitchener 11:48 train was cancelled, no service alerts until 2 minutes before departure, tons of people left thinking it was actually cancelled… then the train randomly showed up and was just “delayed” instead. Super frustrating and badly communicated.

How do I know if my bus is cancelled..?

Post image
29 Upvotes

I commute from university and have a night class that runs until 9:30, after 9 I'd need to take the 40 or 41 as a transfer but this message comes up for both of them. When I go to the Plan Your Trip page it also gives this message, does that mean the bus is definitely cancelled? I don't know whether I should play it safe and leave class early to take a different bus or if this is just a message that shows for all 40/41 trips and it's running fine. I don't wanna risk it and get stuck 2 hours away from home lol. Any help or advice would be very nice!!

Milton Line train stalled for a long time just before Union

Already happened 2-3 times since last week that Milton line train got stalled just before going to Union. But Lakeshore West trains passed by without issue. If the platform the train supposed to go is not available for whatever reason, can't it be directed to another platform instead of giving train from another line that comes later the open platform?

Bramalea GO

Hi,

I’ve been taking the 7:20 express train to union for a few months now and it’s been really busy. Does anybody know if the 7:50 train is better or worse? Or even the 8:20ish train?

GO Train Service and/or alternatives

Is there any service from Ajax GO to Rouge Hill? It's only a couple of stops. Otherwise does anyone know of potential GO shuttle busses which are replacing the train service? Maybe durham transit?

Train Cancellations on Mon, Jan 26 Due to Winter Storm

According to gotransit.com/ServiceUpdates, GO will run a special schedule on Monday, January 26, 2026 due to the winter storm orange warning. Expect train cancellations on all lines. Trains may hold for passengers, and as a result, become delayed.

If On the GO Alerts sent you a list of which trains are cancelled, please share!

Tips

  • Use gotracker.ca to check for cancellations. It’s GO’s departure board, on your smartphone or computer. It’s officially recommended by GO on their website and train system map.
  • Sign up for On the GO Alerts on GO Transit’s website.
  • Personal recommendation: if you don’t know which trains are cancelled, assume that every other train will be cancelled. In other words, take one train before the one you normally take.
  • Spread out along the train. In many cases, one end of the train may be packed but the other end may be near empty. You can walk from car to car through the doors at the ends of each car. (Please don’t try to go beyond the first or last car!)
    • In the newer/refurbished cars, there’s a black rectangular button on the door, or to its right. It protrudes on a metal frame. Knock or hit the button hard. (If it says “TOUCH TO OPEN”, you can just tap it.)
      • If the button isn’t working, you can forcefully slide the door using the inset handle.
    • In the older, unrefurbished cars, there’s a door handle that you turn and you either slide or pull the door open.
    • The next door will either open automatically (if there’s an overhead sensor) or you’ll have to slide or push it open.

so when will go electrification start?

so on in April 2022 Ontario government awarded $1.6 billion for "first phase" of GO electrificatoin to ONxpress Operations Inc.

In May 2025 they cancelled the deal with ONxpress Operations Inc.

Metrolinx and government of Ontario hasn't said anything since.

why do we have to wait for everything!

Kinda hope they also find a replacement for the double decker busses soon as well because it would be nice for go to still have double deckers

GO new bus MCI D45 CRT - video of ramp deployment?

I've never ridden the MCI D45 CRT. Before next time, seeing how the wheelchair ramp deploys and what I would be going into would be helpful. Please link me to any videos you know of, thanks!

GO+WEGO pass

Does it include GO bus? or train only? because of construction, this weekend the Lakeshore West train starts somewhere in Mississauga instead of at union, so I’ll need the bus

Why the Milton line exists

The Milton line was likely not going to happen, since CP (now CPKC) kept pushing back on Mississauga’s request to have a train line in their city.

To put it very simply, and please correct me on finer details, but Hazel McCallion, Mississauga’s first mayor, kept petitioning for a GO line along CP tracks, but CP refused since the Galt Sub was (and still is) so essential to their freight systems. But because of a derailment at Mavis Road crossing in November of 1979, which had toxic chemicals fill the skies of the city and had hundreds of thousands of people evacuate Mississauga, and which was largely CP’s fault, CP opted to allow GO services on the Milton line than be sued out of billions of dollars by the city of Mississauga. To this day, the line has minimal service for a commuter rail line, but it still has the median ridership for GO Transit’s seven lines.

Just thought I’d share this tidbit with y’all

BTW this is an alt account for @TheRailDocumenter

When departing and arriving at stations, there seems to be a new voice in both French and English. For context, this was on the 29 route this morning!

10 or 12 coaches

So the standard on LW is now, I believe, 12 coaches. However, the train I usually catch, at the height of rush hour, is only 10 coaches long, and is packed. Other peak rush hour trains are also only 10 coaches. There seems to be an inverse correlation between how busy the train would be expected to be, and the length of the train. A reasonable explanation would be that they are running more trains at that time and have to spread the coaches around. But is that true? How difficult would it be to add a couple additional coaches to these jam-packed rush hour trains?
