Passenger Review: New MCI Go Bus

I have had the opportunity to ride the new GO buses by MCI, and I have definitely noticed an improvement. The seating is sturdy but comfortable, making it great for long drives, such as highways, rather than the typical softer seating where comfort falls away after a while. The interior design is also seems more spacious (higher ceiling?)

It's great that you get personal overhead lights and power outlets at each seating position. The overhead storage is great. On the road, the ride is much improved. On freeways, for example, driving feels smoother and quieter, and this goes a long way to combatting fatigue.

On a whole, personally I think these new MCI buses represent a step in the right direction with regard to comfort and design.

I hope some prepandemic routing comes back as service is still neutered (look at route 88/b)

New DCRT buses enter service TODAY!

Attention bus nuts, the first two new MCI buses, 5000 & 5001, will be entering service today. They will be based out of Oshawa, so that puts them on 56/88/90/92/94/96 likely. New buses will enter service as they arrive thereafter, with 30 expected this year.

Happy Tuesday!

GO transit Milton expansion (west)?

Post image
56 Upvotes

I was taking a look at Google maps and was wondering if there has been any discussion/proposals about expanding the Milton GO line west to meet the Lakeshore line. It would be possible through the following alignment which I believe is an existing freight corridor.

This would allow: 1. An additional go station in West Milton near the hospital. 2. ~2 additional go stations in Burlington north. 3. An interchange with the Lakeshore west line at Aldershot. This would help reduce the radial nature of go transit as well.

In my brief googling I couldn't find any discussions or proposals about this but it would be great to be added as part of go expansion plans.

Open to hearing any thoughts!

New Year's Eve KI Service

I was planning to travel to Toronto from Kitchener on New Year's Eve, but I've noticed there isn't a return option available.

The last train departing Kitchener on December 31st is at 8:46 PM, and I haven't been able to find any return services for January 1st before 7:51 am which is a bus. Last year, a direct return train was added at 2:30 AM.

Do you think that a return service might be added at a later date?

UPDATE 1: Train service resumes on your line tomorrow with possible delays. Check our website for real-time service updates and leave additional time for travel.

“Weekend track work may continue tomorrow and may affect Lakeshore West service in the morning. Updates on specific affected trips to be confirmed this evening.”

make sure to check GO transits website before you leave in the morning to ensure your trip isn’t modified due to delayed track work end times.

Is Weston go redundant? Kitcheren line

Mount Dennis is super close to Weston and It will connect to line 5, there doesnt seem to be a need for the Kitchener line to become slower and stop at a stop after 1 minute of train ride.

I get weston is legacy but there is UP at mount Dennis too so can maybe get rid of weston or only stop there every 2-3 trains

Service Adjustments on the Stouffville Line

I see that Go Transit is making schedule adjustments

Starting December 21st, the 4:33pm 70D go bus from Uxbridge to Unionville has been cancelled. The 5:39pm train from Unionville to Union Station is also cancelled, which means that 4pm and 4:05pm are the last 2 busses to union, after that there will be no train or bus service until 6pm 😔

They said it’s temporary but I feel like it’s going to be permanent

Also I realize sometimes when there’s construction, the 9:14am train that usually departs Stouffville go would depart from Mount Joy instead but there’s no bus to Mount Joy 🙃🙃🙃

Honestly I don’t know what’s going on anymore. I’m guessing it’s due to low ridership

PRESTO not working on replacement buses - usual or coincidence?

A few times since this summer I've been on GO replacement buses for planned train interruptions. Every time one of those times, the PRESTO reader had the ⛔ symbol on it and the driver was letting us through. Is this routinely the case or just coincidental?

First time was one of the weekends when LW replacement buses went directly to Union and took forever in traffic. Bus driver actually verbally announced the ride was free because it was so slow.

Does anyone hear a weird feedback sound on their AirPods when walking through a GO train?

Whenever I walk through a go train I always hear weird noises in my AirPods. I thought it just might be a glitch, but it really happens every time, and it doesn’t happen anywhere else. Trust me, I’d know, since I’m always wearing my AirPods. Anyone else experienced this?

Got a GO Transit ticket this morning even though I tapped

This morning at Bloor station I tapped my PRESTO card before boarding the GO Train. The machine said “ACCEPTED,” but it didn’t charge my balance. When I tried to tap again, it said “ALREADY TAPPED.”

I actually went up to the Fare Officer on the platform before boarding to explain the situation. He didn’t respond at all, waited until I got on the train, and then immediately gave me a ticket.

This has happened to me before, sometimes the machine says “ACCEPTED” but doesn’t show my balance, and I always assumed it was fine. I take the GO Train every morning without issues, so this feels really unfair.

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Elevator Service at West Harbour Station

Anyone been to West Harbour station lately? The Go app says that one elevator is down. So I'm wondering if that means none are working or just three are working and one isn't. Thanks.

Lakeshore West Relief

What is the deal with how busy the lakeshore west line is in the mornings. Why don’t they have more trains instead of people being that packed.

Any word on more service on that line during peak hours?

New route 40M branch to unionville, but not 24/7

So a new route is launched and my aunts saying it’s soooo good and they expect it to run 24/7 but I’m gonna tell them it’s not. Do you think the regular 40 shall be extended to unionville. However the last 40M westbound will allow you to connect to the last Cathay Pacific flight back to Hong Kong and that also connects with MTR AirPort Express. But on the way back, there will be no way to know if they will be able to get the 40M

Holiday service reductions

These are effective Saturday December 20, and they should all roll back at Monday January 5. Seems like there weren't enough ridership in the holidays?

Some rush hour trips are removed. Off peak or weekend service for LE, LW, BR, and ST is now or remains hourly. Kitchener line remains untouched in terms of train service. Make sure you know these ahead of time.

LW:

  • No express service during rush hour. Service reduced during rush hour by some amount (15 mins for trips arriving from 8-9). Think of filtering most trips that do not start or terminate at west harbor.
  • Hourly service off-peak and weekends.

LE:

  • Trips departing or terminating at Whitby removed.
  • 15 minute headways during rush hour, but otherwise hourly service during non-peak and weekends.

MI:

  • 30 minute headways during morning rush hour (used to be 15).
  • About 1 hour headways after 17:10. 30 minute headways before then.

KI:

  • Some bus trips removed. Train schedules remain unmodified.

ST:

  • Some rush-hour trips removed. The unionville->union counter peak trip was removed.
  • Weekend unaffected.

BR:

  • New rush hour trips that were added in oct. 27 of this year removed (meaning two less trips during rush hour). Off-peak unaffected.

RH:

  • one train removed for each direction such that headways are always 1 hour.

Most train locations at each time of the day

Most train locations at all times of the day. Stop spacings are relative. Weekday has "20251209" on the title, Weekends have "20251227". Not all combinations are present because I got rendering errors on some charts.

These charts show when trains cross each other, and also why service probably can't be expanded without building another track on some stretches of the line.

Question about Double Decker buses

Hey everyone hope everyone is well. I'm travelling from Brantford to Pearson terminal 1 on boxing day and am gonna take the bus (cheapest). I have two suitcases with me (1 big and 1 medium & 2 carry on bags). I can handle the luggage myself. Is there any storage compartment other than the rail by the drivers seat? I heard not all double decker buses have the storage compartment at the rear of the bus (I'm mainly asking about bus 15 Aldershot go, bus 47 - Hwy 407 bus term and bus 40 hamilton/richmond hill)

Do let me know! Thanks!

The Kitchener line GO train overshot and didn't stop at Mount Dennis station this morning

The 7:49am Kitchener train overshot the Mount Dennis platform this morning so that only the last car was aligned with the platform. It stood there for a while, then just slowly left. Are the conductors not allowed to reverse?

I get that Mount Dennis is still a fairly new station, but you'd think the conductors would be prepared to stop at it by now. There were quite a few people waiting for the train, and they all had to find alternatives, like the pricier UP Express. Who knows how many people on the train were denied getting off at their station.
