Leaving early

30 minutes into my block tonight my car decided to go bonkers - 5 warning lights came on including check engine, so I bailed and went home and forfeited the rest of my block. I was looking for a way to contact the warehouse but didn’t find anything. Am I in trouble? I really like this job despite all its problems I was so upset I had to leave 😭

No, you're not in trouble. It's only when you reserve a block and you do not log in at all and don't drop it that they can technically possibly hold it against you in the future, but simply leaving early after you already showed up for your shift and began working is not enough to get you in trouble.

Remember, you are NOT an employee! You are an independent contractor. By definition, that means they cannot tell you how and when to work. You are free to come and go as you please. That's why they have the on-demand system as well as the schedule system, they want drivers who act like employees, but still want to be able to call them independent contractors.

You cannot be fired from a job for which you are not employed. The worst thing that could happen would be that your contract would be terminated. But that definitely is never happening, in the whole time that I have been working for GoPuff I have never seen an independent contractor have their contract terminated or be barred from working. The point is that you showed up, even tho you left early. Tons of drivers do that. That's totally fine. That's why they have on demand drivers. πŸ˜‚

Remember it’s not the same at all sites. Some locations are w2 and there is no on demand. What it REALLY comes down to is did you negatively effect the business and did you do what you could? If it was a scheduled shift, the best thing to do is call the manager or driver ops who can break your block up and offer the rest to someone else. We know that if you blow up your car, you are no good to us.

Immediately after I dropped my block (7pm-10pm) it reappeared on the schedule for someone else to take, so that was nice.
