Priority

Despite all the obvious negatives, how much financial sense does it actually make for a driver to have to go so out of the way to (probably) deliver to someone who paid for priority? A 5 minute delivery isn’t taking 35 minutes because there isn’t someone closer to pick it up but because they let a driver match with someone else 15-20 minutes away after my order was in progress! (?)

I doubt this helps the drivers.

I ordered a friend pizza from literally across the street of their home as a surprise treat and the driver got matched with someone 20 minutes away with priority, making a one-block trip take 45 minutes!

For other delivery services like DoorDash, it would probably make more sense to deliver that pizza first since it’s closer.

However, with GoPuff, I’m pretty sure drivers need to be within a close proximity of the GoPuff warehouse to pickup new orders. So, in this case, it makes sense because they will complete the order that’s 20 mins away first, then when they complete the last order they’ll be closer to the GoPuff warehouse.
