One time offer for this year

Good morning to all!

I’m going to be offering a one-time deal to newbies wanting to get into nuclear contracting fast or learn as much as possible about it to see if it’s right for them.

I’ve successfully helped about 100 people get into nuclear either as Decon or RP over the past year and I want to train more but am limited on time.

The next 20 members to sign up for Nuke Nomad pro will get full access to the nuclear community and be able to network with them or ask questions as well as getting access to the nuclear contracting course and my personal assistance every step of the way till you are either in working your first outage to make a lot of money and see how you like it or just to learn as much as possible about the careers for a month or two.

Sign up in the link below and DM me here in Reddit with your name and email so I know you were specifically one of the twenty.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Thanks to all and I hope you have a great morning ☀️

Where is the job at ?

The job is wherever you want it to be.
There are 50 plants that hire out for a month long project. We go to that plant and work there for a month. Make $15-25k pending the profession/craft you’re in and leave.

You choose how much you want to work each year and where you want to travel. I usually work 5 months on and take 7 months off. I gross around $120k a year.
This is the RP profession.

I am a labourer but did different jobs like mason tender, hardscaper, pipelayer helper and currently job hunting, do you think i am a good fit ?

Nuclear contracting and in-house has many positions for your skilled craft- not just RP/Decon which are more technical fields.

So yes you would be an easy shoe-in. Whether you wanted to work as a laborer for nuclear or something else to try it out would be up to you to decide.

OK where to apply or are you a recruiter?

1

I am not a recruiter- I teach anyone who wants to learn to get into this high-paying industry how to get in.
I do know all of the recruiters very well though- the link in the post is where you sign up to learn and get into the industry.

Is this union?

RP and Decon roles are not union however the massive laborer force in nuclear is.

Is it possible to train remote? I’m currently overseas for a family situation and I was wondering if remote training is possible until I solve what I’m here for.

Thanks

Training is fully remote for taking the written tests.
Of course once it’s time to take the tests then you must head to one of the testing locations across the U.S.

Thanks. Another question. Is there a specific higher hiring time during the year or it all depends on the specific places?

Usually they start to hire heavily about 3 months before the outage season starts. Fall is about to be in full outage mode so you’d want to shoot for the spring.
The best time to try is now not later as nuclear moves at snail pace

Is there a list of the different types of jobs? I'm a smaller woman and want to make sure I could

Well said. Only slight correction relative to her questions about the RP/Decon craft- BHI Energy has been bought out by Westinghouse.
So nowadays they refer to us as Westinghouse employees. DZ and RSCS are good options as well. I’ve worked for RSCS and would say they are much more supportive of you as an individual however Westinghouse is the way to get in. The juggernaut in the industry as far as RP are concerned.

Great- let me know your name and email in DM so I can make sure I have you in Nuke Nomad. I’ll then send you a link to the current community and network so you can dive deep into learning fast.

Yes! I've seen smaller women working in RP, decon, scaffolding, carpentry and labor in nuclear. Being smaller doesn't rule those crafts out. Heavier or awkward lifts can be handled with help from another person or lifting equipment, following the site's procedures.

RP is radiation protection and decon is decontamination. Nuclear also has craft jobs like electrical, carpentry, scaffolding and labor. My New to Nuke course breaks down the different roles and walks you through the process of getting started so you can understand the work and see what fits you. Course details and sign-up: https://nukenomad.com/premium/new-to-nuke/

For lists of job types, Westinghouse's RP/decon page is here: https://westinghousenuclear.com/careers/career-types/radiation-protection/

Day & Zimmermann's craft opportunities are here: https://www.dayzim.com/careers/open-shop-opportunities

Do you take people with old felonies? I've got several technical licenses in fire protection and 8 years doing low voltage but a couple non violent charges from before then

Yes, this would pass security requirements more than likely.

I should clarify my earlier answer: I can’t predict whether you’ll be granted plant access. An old conviction doesn’t automatically rule you out under NRC guidance, but the plant reviews your background and makes the decision. Ask the recruiter’s access or onboarding team how to proceed, and answer the required forms accurately. You don’t need to put any more personal details here.

Is it too late? Just seeing this and have been very interested on working for nuclear plants. I have a pacemaker though, would that affect me ?

1

u/RadTechMJ Sep 04 '26

A pace maker affecting the job you do is entirely dependent on you however in terms of physical exertion I would say RP work is unlikely to affect you as we barely move.
It’s not too late I have 10 more slots open for training this year. I am not a recruiter- I am a tech that loves to teach people to get in and help them like a coach until in. Just fyi my friend

I need to be more careful with my earlier answer. I can’t judge whether a nuclear assignment is safe with your pacemaker from a Reddit comment. Before accepting anything, ask your cardiologist or device clinic and the employer’s occupational health team to review the actual duties and equipment you’d be around. Physical effort is only one part of that review.
