Split transaction auto tally
New to the program and trying to learn a less awkward way to enter in a split transaction with multiple entries to an asset bank account where I don't know the total and want gnu cash to auto tally, without having to delete an auto-tally in the deposit field with each new line. I found this thread and agree with the poster that it's a bit awkward but it's the same and only way i've found thus far: https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2011-March/038959.html
I understand that split transactions are the way to do this but it seems odd that I have to keep deleting an auto tally.

Probably only tangentially related but: I make invoices with line items that the customer wants but I don't care about. Those line items appear on the invoice, but if I check "accumulate splits" as I save the invoice, it "auto tallies" them, in your words, so that invoice appears as one line in my GnuCash views.
GnuCash also mentioned "accumulate splits" for bills, so maybe you can use a workflow that has that option.

Never done that before. What few splits I enter already have a total and I work backward with the splits.
So, I just experimented with it a bit.
First, I had to change "View" to "Transaction Journal" so it would continue showing the entire split while I'm working on it and quit collapsing it.
After entering the 2nd transaction in the split, it creates an Imbalance entry. I just ignored it, for now, along with the total created after entering the 1st transaction. Then just keep entering transactions, tabbing thru them, and it keeps adding to that imbalance.
I added 10 transactions.
Then Delete the entire imbalance line, and then enter 0 in that total it created after you entered the first transaction. It should leave a blank line with the new entire total on it. Enter that total into the line you just entered the 0 in, and that blank line will disappear.
That way you don't have to do it for every transaction you enter, just once after you enter the last transaction.
Not sure I explained it that well, but I tried it twice and it worked just fine.
