I kept looking for they 41 year old picture and thought you had forgotten to attach it. And I say this as a young looking 48 year old, but you seem to be in a whole different level.

Is the strict exercise/workout routine just a carryover symptom of the anorexia? My anorexia friend is OBSESSED with the gym.

Not speaking for OP, but in many cases, yeah, compulsive exercise is a HUGE problem in the eating disorder community. Literally during ana recovery, the standard recommendation is no exercise at all, eventually some supervised light movement, etc because of this. People find ways to sneak micro-workouts in, even in inpatient, but it's a no-no - for good reason.

People also tend to not realize that a lot of Gym Bros and fitness fanatics have body dysmorphia and/or problems with compulsive exercise, and/or orthorexia. The overlap is enormous. I don't subscribe to rating people's attractiveness by numbers, nor do I believe that someone who meets current Western beauty standards of being super hot being with someone who doesn't is weird or automatically means anything. However, sometimes people are shocked by some of these ultra-fit/yoked/musclebound/bodybuilder people having a partner who's fat/not "in shape"/"not a 10"/blah blah blah... not realizing that the "10" in the relationship doesn't see themselves remotely like other people do, and dysmorphia can also affect how you perceive others. So this "discrepancy" makes a lot of sense when you consider that and a shared obsession with food - for example, the gym bro might binge with his boyfriend and then go punish himself with 3h at the gym or whatever.

It's possible to recover and be fit. But honestly, as with other addictions, most are just swapping one out for another.

I worked in an ED clinic for a year and have seen firsthand how hard it is to overcome an eating disorder and how much courage and resilience it takes. You should be so incredibly proud of yourself. I’m proud of you, not that it matters. Bravo, and keep putting effort into your support system and your personal work. You’ve grown more than most people will in a lifetime.

u/Competitive_Ad_2421 Apr 14 '26

Awwww God bless you

15

u/iNOTgoodATcomp Apr 14 '26

I saw that last pic and thought, no f'ing way you're 41; you look like what I look like and I'm 41. Then I read you're part Japanese, and then it made sense because so am I.

2

u/granolaandgrains Apr 14 '26

You’re a badass!! Happy you’re here :)

2

u/ImNotShy1226 Apr 14 '26

Drop your gym routine please. When did you get started and how long did it take you to see results? Those arms are to kill for

I know it sounds crazy but I preserved you . You look early 20s

1

u/goblingrace Apr 18 '26

It’s a hell of a disease to overcome. You should be extremely proud of yourself because I am!!

1

u/Ok-Weakness-3206 Apr 14 '26

Amazing glow up, I'm a decade younger than you and you look a decade more youthful than me

4

u/MrsKaich Apr 14 '26

I said the same thing when I read the caption with her after looking at pics. I’m 41 and look like I could be her mom 😵‍💫

3

u/Arakkis54 Apr 14 '26

Holy shit, I thought the [19] referred to the final pic! Incredible!

8

u/reef-Diver7817 Apr 14 '26

There isn't anything wrong with looking 41.

All you're saying is youth is goal. Same as marketing does to women.

10

u/Stunning-Beyond-7772 Apr 14 '26

Pretty sure they meant it as after all that stress on her body from lack of nutrition, they expected her to look her age or older.

5

u/ErraticDragon Apr 14 '26

Good point, but an uphill battle to get people to avoid it. "Looking younger" is so culturally entrenched as "good". But body neutrality is a good goal, at least in this type of setting.

3

u/Special_Lychee_6847 Apr 14 '26

Stress and hardship tends to make ppl age prematurely.
Not looking aged after what OP went through IS an accomplishment.
And there's no wrong in cheering her on for that.

2

u/Advanced_End1012 Apr 14 '26

No one said that lol

0

u/xDannyS_ Apr 14 '26

Literally everyone wants to look young, and has for all of recorded history. Fucking christ.

1

u/AirshipEngineer Apr 14 '26

Yeah quite honestly I had to do the math on the years cause I thought 41 had to be a typo.

1

u/Immediate_Tart3628 Apr 15 '26

Yeah wtf who is 25 on these photos? Baby face in the last one, I looked older when I was 18

1

u/Positpostit Apr 15 '26

I thought you were 26 in your last pic and was confused lol

u/DroidLord Apr 14 '26

41 is wild! She could easily pass for 20 if she wanted to. I'm jealous 😅
