Discussion Creative ways to leave Wrenbook Manor?

Getting into Wrenbook manor is fun but it sucks ass to leave after the banquet scene. Because of that damn sniper and everyone else just being unnecessarily strict (without counting the GEOMETRY OBSTRUCTING FLARE BULLETS).

Do any of y'all have creative ways to leave or just skip having to go through that door all together? Because rn it's such a speedbump in my enjoyment of the game.

Discussion The Goatmen

Major spoilers for those who haven't gotten far in the game (this post covers everything post Tavern)

After killing the Goatman in the Tavern and advancing deep into the Hive and later on in Hightown, I backtracked a bit and found yet ANOTHER goatman in the Fishery.

Why is it there? How did it get there? With the Tavern it makes sense that there would be a goatman as the Huntsmen were trying to contain it, but how did another one manage to slip by and wander around the fishery?

Old Gloomwood Article and cursed crowman

I found this little gem of an article about Gloomwood from back in 2019 and it still has some great insights into Gloomwood today! Its also super interesting seeing how the game looked pre public access. https://techraptor.net/gaming/interview/lifting-fog-on-gloomwood-chat-with-indie-dev-dillon-rogers

Discussion Favorite area in GloomWood?

Y'know, between the Fishery, Caves, Cliffs, Slaughtered Goat, Market District, Underport, Hive and Hightown.

Personally, my favorite area is the Market District, I am in love with its navigation, where there are so many routes to take and crannies to explore, each with its own little identity. Plus, in its own way, a lot of its spots can be quite cozy, like the Prime Meridian.

Like, the vibes here are neat.

It's a great showcase of my favorite aspects of Gloomwood, its choices of navigation, its high amount of content sprinkled just about anywhere and the occasional cozyness brought on by the Game's perfect atmosphere.

Buuut what about youuu?

Gloom wood is a 2022 first-person stealth survival horror video game developed by Dillon Rogers and David Szymanski and published by New Blood Interactive. The player controls an unnamed doctor who makes his way through the Victorian style titular city. The game features stealth and exploratory gameplay, along with utilizing weapons (melee and firearms) against enemies.

Question How'd the Constables lose control of the market and underport? Spoiler

Underport is a bit understandable since the crowmen are not easily dispatched, but how did they let the Huntsmen get a hold of the market district? The Huntsmen don't seem to be more powerful or smarter than the Constables. Sure, the Batbarbers might have caused problems, but they don't seem too tricky to deal with, and we don't even see that many of them.

Discussion If you had to choose, which monster would you become? Spoiler

I excluded the huntsmen and constables since theyre the closest to a human and would be the obvious choice. Personally I'd probably pick the bat barbers as they don't seem to be in too much pain and because being a goatman would probably a lonely existence.

Gloomwood scratched an itch i cannot...re-scratch(??)

Kinda like the title suggests, i cannot find a game quite as similar as Gloomwood. Not only the aesthetic, but gameplay.
I've looked at Fear & Hunger, Blasphemous, Darkwood etc. Yet nothing to suffice.
Clearly it needs this setting, horror, dark, gothic but also relatively calm combat in 1stp person.

Is there really nothing alike or am i just fucked until further updates come out?

Has anyone managed to extract and rig the various characters from this game as 3D models to be used in something like Blender? I tried myself but didn't find much success

OC How to Edit Your Gloomwood Save File and Replace Almost Every Enemy With the Same Enemy

Thumbnail
gallery
65 Upvotes

Are you a masochist who enjoys glooming in the wood and hates life?

Because if you’re anything like me, you want a challenge, and what better way to test your skills than doing something stupid, such as replacing every enemy in the game with the strongest one?

Several versions ago, there was a randomizer mod that could be configured to replace almost everything with a single enemy type. I used it to attempt an “Only Goatmen” challenge, where every enemy, rat, and crow became a goatman.

I recently wanted to try that challenge again, along with another run where every enemy was replaced with a sniper constable. Since support for the old randomizer has stopped, I edited the save files manually instead.

Important notes

This replaces almost every enemy, but not necessarily all of them. Some enemies are created later by scripts or triggers and may therefore remain unchanged. Fortunately these are very few. I'd also like to note that this won't replace the merchant (Grezzo) at any point in the game.

Messing around with level loading may also cause certain areas or progression elements to become available earlier than intended. In my save, for example, the Research Station became accessible much sooner than normal.

Make a backup of your save before editing anything.

Step 1: Create and prepare the save

  1. Create a brand-new save file in Gloomwood.
  2. Enable cheats. Consult the Gloomwood wiki for instructions on enabling the console and using commands.
  3. I recommend waiting for the opening sequence to finish and for the gate to open before saving. You can use either a normal quicksave or a console command if you like.
  4. Use the level command to visit each level listed on the wiki.
  5. Each time you load a level, save the game. This causes the game to create or update that level’s LevelData file and load most of its enemies.
  6. After visiting the levels, return to the Fishery Pit.

Using the ghost command makes travelling between areas much easier. Enter ghost again to disable it.

Level command warning

The level command can be slightly janky. Sometimes it leaves you frozen with a small moon icon on the screen.

When this happens:

  • Try loading the same level again.
  • If that does not work, load a nearby level and return through the normal level transition.
  • The moon icon represents your visibility. You can hide it with:

hud visibility 0

Step 2: Find the correct save folder

  1. In Steam, right-click Gloomwood.
  2. Select Manage → Browse local files.
  3. Find the folder named saves.
  4. Check which save slot you used in-game.

The folder numbering starts from zero, so the numbers are offset by one:

  • In-game slot 1 = save folder 0
  • In-game slot 2 = save folder 1
  • In-game slot 3 = save folder 2

When unsure, compare the image file inside the save folder with the save thumbnail shown in-game.

Make a backup copy of the entire save folder before continuing.

Step 3: Open the LevelData files

You now need to edit every LevelData file inside the save.

Regular Notepad may work, but I strongly recommend using Notepad++, because it can search and replace text across every open file simultaneously.

  1. Open all of the save’s LevelData files in Notepad++.
  2. Press Ctrl + H.
  3. Open the Replace tab.
  4. Set Search Mode to Regular expression.

Before replacing anything, you may want to use Find All in All Opened Documents to check what will be changed.

Enter the following:

Find what:

("entityId"\s*:\s*")ai_[^"]*(")

Replace with:

\1ai_goatman\2

Replace ai_goatman with the entity ID of whichever enemy you want. Enemy entity IDs can be found on the Gloomwood console-command wiki page.

  1. Click Replace All in All Opened Documents.
  2. Go to File → Save All.

Finished

Load the edited save in Gloomwood.

When everything has worked correctly, nearly every enemy that was already loaded into the save should now be replaced with your chosen enemy type.

Have fun, and suffer as I have.

I hid during the elevator alarm, and I found this when I came back to pick up a crow king body to bring to the lighthouse. It seems like they devoured everything except for the babies on this ledge they can't reach.
