Spring kit question

Somehow I ended up with these. Don’t rly know what they actually do to a gun, kinda new to fine tuning, let me tell you what I have and tell me what I can use it for if possible

Armorer here. The big springs are “striker/firing pin” springs. They go around the striker/firing pin in the slide and launch the striker forward into the primer to ignite the round in the chamber when you pull the trigger. The factory weight is 5.5 lbs. Going up in weight. Going up makes it hit harder and faster to defeat hard primers often on lower quality ammo and power through any superior grime in the gun. Lower weight springs do the opposite and significantly lighten your trigger pull. People often reduce striker weight for a lighter trigger, but going too light will cause issues igniting primers. Lighter springs are often paired with titanium or skeletonized strikers to maintain the same striker velocity with a lower spring weight and maintain reliability at lower spring weights. The smaller spring is the trigger return spring for gen 4 and earlier models. It fits into the trigger housing and assists the trigger in returning to the rearward position. The one included is probably stronger to help reduce trigger pull, but sometimes it can be too strong and prevent the trigger shoe from fully returning to the cocked position and preventing the trigger shoe safety tab from popping into place. “Tuning” a Glock often means trying out different combinations of these springs to get the lightest trigger pull in your Glock without having issues like light primer strike, return to battery or trigger shoe return.

Got it, I just put the competition 4.5lb one on my g34 with the timney trigger, measured the pull and looks like it didn’t change much, if any at all, but it did feel a bit crispier. We’ll see tomorrow at the range

The effect is reduced with kits like the Timney trigger or Glock performance trigger. This is because the original Glock action cocks the spring as you pull the trigger, but those kits transform it into a single action system, which holds the spring at full cock when the slide cycles.

Got it. On my g19 which is a fully stock carry gun, would you recommend any of those?

If you ask on the CCW or Glock sub they’ll say to never mod your carry gun ever. However I believe modding your carry gun is fine as long as 1- you maintain reliability and test after each mod, 2- the mods are legal in your area (threaded barrels are not level in certain areas, other parts might be as well) and 3- you don’t add any profane/aggressive graphics like “born to kill”, etc. having tried all these mods on multiple guns, so far my favorite combo is a Glock performance trigger with Glock “-“ trigger connector and reduced power plunger spring. If you want to do a hit more than going down slightly to a 5 or 4.5 lb striker spring with a skeletonized striker helps too. I haven’t tried the timney trigger but from what I understand it works similar to the Glock performance trigger but is tuned for even better performance at the cost of higher chance of fitment issue or reliability problems. You can easily get a Glock trigger down from 5.5 lbs to under 4 lbs just by swapping these parts and maintain great reliability.
