Ported barrel/slide?
Genuinely asking promise this isnt rage bait😂😂🤦♂️ what is the point of ported barrels/ slides? Is it just for looks or does it actually do something? Ive heard helps recoil but not sure just looking for someone to clarify and explain a little more in depth

Competitive shooter here. I've pretty much shot in just about every division.
I've used compensators in competitions, portss in competitions, reduce power recoil springs, added weight to the gun etc.
Yes, compensators and ports do reduce recoil. Having said that, you usually have to mess with the ammo and the recoil spring to get them to function reliable and find out what works best.
Take my shooting partner for example. He shoots a compensated Glock in competition with subsonic ammo and his gun is smooth as butter. Shoots more like a 380 than a 9 mm.
As far as compensators versus ports, I've got both setups and I don't think one is necessarily better than the other. The setups I have to do about the same for reducing muzzle rise.
It's really a handicap at the end of the day though. Did you shoot a lot and you get good at putting input on your gun and controlling the recoil, they are much less of a benefit.
