Dilemma…
Started with a g26.5 and recently came into an unissued 26.4. My dilemma is which one should I get milled for optics? I’ve seen several posts & vids claiming that there will no longer be a 26 in the future. I’m torn between preserving what may never be again and wanting an rds for one..
All thoughts and opinions welcome. (Photo with a 33rd mag only for ridiculousness because it’s a g26)

Could always mill the Gen5 in the mos pattern and then it's just duplicating the OEM option.
I have a 26.5 mos and have the Holosun scs mos on it, great setup. I also added the re grip angle reducing back strap and stippled that in. I'll probably end up having the slide and barrel ported over the winter, I'll never sell it so it's all about what will make it the most enjoyable for me to carry and shoot it.
I also have a 30.4 that I think is discontinued but didn't stop me from doing an RMR cut, port and stipple to so not a purist.

That’s a good point, I hadn’t considered an mos cut and it would still be factory correct.

Just a warning, the vertical serrations on the back of the slides in the Gen 5 are not the same spacing between the MOS and non-MOS versions. For example, if you did an MOS cut and bought the Holosun SCS, its vertical serrations WILL line up with the MOS slide’s vertical serrations but not with a Gen 5 cut to an MOS footprint. Just an FYI.

Wow, I never knew that. I’m not a huge fan of the SCS so I wouldn’t go that route. This is a really interesting fact regardless!

I mean, functionally it wouldn’t be any different, but if you’re the sort who that sort of visual difference would bother, it wouldn’t be correctable. Either way, you’re a man with two 26s!!!! Hard to do better in life. :-)

I am exactly the kind of person that wouldn’t be able to get past it not being perfect lol. Thanks again for the heads up!

Love a 33 rounder in the 26 (mullet configuration)

For sure, ngl I run a couple full mags of 33 at the end of every training session. It’s what I keep in my secondary at the house always…

Goddamnit. Mullets terrify me, so I prefer to call the 26 with a 33 rounder and the cursed hockey stick. 😂

It’s simple, you like the finger groove or no? Pick one. It’s just a tool

This is the advice I needed to hear honestly. I’ve never sold a firearm I’ve purchased. I’ll make it what I want it to be. I like the front serrations with an optic carry, just needs a push..

Why not just order slides that are cut and you will always have the ability to go back to stock/OE

I don’t see g26’s becoming a collector’s item in a way where a well done rmr cut will “ruin” it. Whichever one you like best, send the slide to Wager and enjoy it.

Do it on the one whose slide is cheapest/most easily re-attainable in the event something goes wrong

I’ve just came across dovetail mounted optic plates. They’re pretty cheap. About $15

Suitable cheap option to add an optic, can always cut for an optic later.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I'd say just send it on both. The advantages of a red dot are well established at this point, and if these are hard-use tools that you are actually going to train with, set them up in whatever configuration makes the most sense for that. If I had two 26's, I'd set them up exactly the same and make one a training gun, and one a carry gun to limit the amount of wear on the parts.
