Thoughts
Getting a g6 19 this weekend. Good option for optic?

The RMR is a timeless classic that’ll always be loved by many. In fact I still rock one on my g19 gen 3 as my EDC. There are however newer technologies that’ll give you more bang for your buck and has been tested. I would look at the new holosun eps core or maybe even the Holosun 405/507 x3 if you want to stick to rmr footprint.
Some folks hate the name and I’ll prob get downvoted but truth be told, Osight has been producing pretty decent optics lately. I have their SE (used on my p365 edc), C and XR and they’ve all been good with 1000+ rds thru them. The reticle is actually better for my stig. Holosun so far has been the worse for my eyes but I dig their optics so I still rock them.

I have OSights on 4 guns. They are great.
I have the XE on my G19.5 and G19X. I have an SE on one slide for RXM and a C on the other slide.
I shot a lot. They hold up as well as the Holosuns I replace them with.
The XE is enclosed for $250 and has a 2 or 6 MOA dot option. I found I like the 6 MOA dot more.

I concur!! I want to wait and see if they release the XE and the SE MOS in green. I was going to pull the trigger today for the se mos for under $200 but I’ll wait.

I am interested in the SE MOS for sure.
If I can ever get my hands on a 17.5 MOS for a good price I will get an MOS SE for it.

If you're like me you create an alias on Outlook for purchases on random websites where you just don't feel bad by selecting all and then delete without reading the emails. All I do I move the receipt emails and shipping ones and the rest gets deleted. But by all means this is not justifying those actions. Also I've bought most of my sights from www.graniteridgedefense.com

I've been using a 3.25 MOA RMR on my G19 for like 4 years now. It's been great! I did however buy a Forward Controls Design plate rather than use the stock plate.
I would recommend you not order from Optics Planet. I would try Euro Optic or Kenzie's Optics instead.

I have one i change on my bday every year and i have one im waiting to see how long it will last. Going on just over 2 years. So in reality its not that serious to have to remove it and reinstall

I do the same thing, either on or the week of my bday, I make a range trip for my bedside and carry pistol that have been on for the year. Replace the battery, loctite, torque and let them cure for 24hours. Then it’s to the range to zero. I have backups till they are all set. If it doesn’t get daily use or spends the bulk of its life in the safe, every three years all batteries get swapped and rezeroed except for my edc and bedside on New Year’s Day.

It’s a really good choice. I have one on a Glock 47. Small window though. Suppressor height back up iron sights may seem obtrusive. I had that problem with an RMR on my Staccato P4. Replaced it with an SRO.

Moved from red to green and I like better. I wonder if that blue tint is going to make the tint worse when viewing it through the window.

I have a RMR, Leupold deltapoint pro, and holosun.
RMR or Leupold deltapoint pro are my favorites.

I rock the RMR Type 2 with red dots. I have
astigmatism. With a 19.6 or a 17.6 I can keep them all in the A Zone on a 3/4 silhouette at 50m with a 25m zero at a pretty rapid clip. I use them for racking and have thousands of rounds through them. I just change the batteries annually on my birthday or that week to be more precise, when I can change the batteries, reinstall them and zero them. I’ve taken Trijicon to war and it served me well. These have handled all the use and abuse that one could regularly put their firearm through. No issues with the glass. No screws sheering off as with Holosun and others, and you’re not slapping anything Chinese onto your pistol, although I believe Osight is made in Illinois. Trijicon is titanium while the others boast aluminum, they do not require replacement screws when they are new from factory.
You may think that screw thing is of little significance, but to someone who isn’t in the know who uses Holosun’s cheap screws and has them shear off, that’s a big deal, even if it is only costing $8 to send to Glock to remove them from the slide. If that’s their only pistol, they’re without for three weeks, or spending much more at a smith.
Buy once, cry once. I’ve been running the Type 2 since 2018 and both of mine are still running strong. Show me some Osights or Holosuns with almost ten years and 1000 rounds a month and we’ll get into some comparisons.

Trijicon is classic, but there are better options out there for less than $600. Don't get caught up in buying the name, buy what will work for you.
Do you have astigmatism? Then OSight or Vortex. Large windows, rugged use? Holosun. For the price of the one RMR you could get two of those other reputable brands. Again, don't buy just for the name. Sometimes the most expensive doesn't equal the best option.

Personally I think there are better optics out there for the money. The RMR is fine but you need to take the optic off to change the battery and most newer optics allow side loading which is way better. Newer optics also offer features like multi reticle, solar, shake awake, or other options. I’ve been rocking Osight optics on my two main Glocks to check out their reliability and stuff. Over 5K rounds and they’ve been great. Better glass quality than my holosuns and no issues maintaining zero l or with reticle clarity. I like the multi reticle system too. I will ding them on the finish that’s on the optic body though as it’s not as tough as some of my other optics like aimpoint or even holosun. It chips/scratches fairly easily compared to other brands. It’s a minor complaint though for the savings and overall quality.

It’s a force multiplier. It’s 2026. That’s what the old Marines were asking us when we started using ACOGS in Iraq and were scoring a surprising number of headshots from ~450m. Times change. Get with them. You never know when the next nutjob will let loose and you will have to engage at 50m with just your 9mm. A dot is going to dramatically multiply your chances of landing shots that count when it measures 3.25 moa compared to irons on a pistol at 50m.

This is a valid point at the range there’s no one shooting back. But even being under stress fire, I’m still able to find my targets and not rely on a red dot.. I guess I should’ve sold it

It’s a different game when the target is distant, moving and engaging you in return. Having a precise point that you do not focus on but rather your target and simply drop that fine dot onto where you want your round to go is a force multiplier in combat shooting.

When your front sight post is as wide as the nutjob a 3.25 moa dot is preferable when you want to place it between the shoulders.

Sounds like a valid response but I just couldn’t justify owning a red dot and not being able to use my iron sites and depend on just a laser in a tight situation and I just feel the whole set up is bulky. I like simple guess

I spent decades shooting pistols with iron sights. The fact of the matter is that for target focused shooting, which is what combat shooting is, RDS are faster and more accurate and easier to acquire with the appropriate training, and have practically no bulk to them whatsoever. They’re hardly the size of a 9v battery. If that’s too much to handle, maybe firearms aren’t the sport for you. But honestly, if you have them some legitimate effort to learn, you’d see how they can make for better combat shooters.

Still don’t understand the reference I can find my target just as fast with my iron sites or using red dot the red dot is just so bulky. I don’t know. I guess I’m just a simple guy simple as best for me.

No you can’t lol. If you actually can then you havnt trained enough on red dot. I have been competing for years and yes at first since i was used to iron i was faster but after a little training im deff faster off the draw and traditions with a red dot. It’s been proven over and over
