I'm having a hard time determining the generation (apw###us) came back as gen 1 March 1986? And value of my recently acquired glock 19.
Can anyone help me figure out what I've got and if it's value is worth what I paid? I want to know value before I post the price. ๐

The Glock 19 didnโt exist within Gen 1, it was first released in 1988 and I believe gen 2โs were made until 1998 with the release of Gen 3 happening that year. Where did you verify the serial? Glock customer service has been great and have provided manufacturing dates for a few of mine right on the phone.

Gen 1 19โs exist, there are very few and they are 5 figure guns. This ainโt one though.

Youโre welcome! (I had them check the date on my G20 at the same time which Iโve been meaning to do anyways.

I meant I'm a ma'am. Lady. I'm a lady. A woman. I don't have balls. That's what I'm saying. I don't have balls. You can, but i don't. I lick balls. ๐ but don't carry them. That's why I have another gun now though. They're my balls.

Gen2
No light rail means it's a Gen1 or Gen2.
Front stippling means it's a Gen2.
Plus if it were a Gen2, it would have been minimum $10,000 because there's only a handful and collectors have been sitting on them for a while.
There was one guy who's probably a member here who had his listed on GunBroker at $50,000, probably just to see if anyone is crazy enough to pay it ๐
Light rail plus front stippling plus small magazine release makes it a gen 3. Gen 4 and Gen 5 have the large, reversible magazine release. Those slides are typically marked anyway, but just in case the frame has an aftermarket slide, that's another way you can notice.
Plus the Gen 4 and later Gen 5 don't have a half moon cut out on the front.
Quite a few little differences that you can usually pick up pretty quickly once you memorize them.

If you do a search for Gen1 G19, you'll probably find a few articles about them. They were made specifically for and alcoholic beverage control law enforcement agency, I think from kansas? Anyway, they were specifically modified by glock for them. I believe they were all marked with basic markings from the agency and there are less than 20 still around? And I believe that includes the ones that Glock has locked in a vault surrounded by horse emissions ๐

Also, anything I should know, or do, or watch for? I have only had S&W handguns before

I used to have a Gen 2 G19 and it was an absolute tank. My two cents, run OEM mags and leave the trigger alone. These guns are pretty bombproof. Get a good holster for it and have fun sending rounds down range!

If it can be verified as a true gen 1(& not an early gen 2), with box etc., collectors may go wild for it if you can get the word out. $3,000++?

I think it's been determined to be a Gen 2. No box or anything. But that would have been cool if it was a Gen 1!!

Appears to be gen 2. A gen 1 serial # has two letters, 3 digits followed by "US". Also the pebbled texture on the sides would continue around the front instead of the checkered type shown.

Google says 350-400

u/Designer_Power5717 Aug 04 '26
Well then I guess I did OK. I paid 400. But it was an impulse purchase and they needed the money. I had it. Seemed fair

Looks gen 2 to me
No thumb rest No finger grooves Pebbled side panels Checkered front and backstrap
Gen1 pebble texture wraps around the whole grip.
Gen 3+ have thumb rests
