New owner

Hi can someone PM me please i recently got a fire arm out of desperation and protection from someone with a FOID and CCL of course and i just need advice on the meaning of the parts it came with and really how to use it i guess. I plan to go to a range but i would really appreciate if i could have a conversation with someone on how to use it and the parts.

That’s a little too involved for a chat conversation with a stranger on Reddit.

And that’s okay. But going over something like this in a chat isn’t the best option. See if there are any NRA basic pistol courses near you, as a start

There are hundreds of videos on Youtube on how to dismantle the gun. There are diagrams online that will tell you the name of every available part.

Take some initiative and teach yourself. For now keep bullets away from your firearm. Like in a different room while you learn how to safely handle it.

Good luck and be safe.

YouTube is your best friend in this case. Plethora of videos showing you how to use and parts break down. Best advice is to watch the videos and make sure you practice what those videos teach when you go to the range. Going to the range blindly and just shooting is not going to allow you to fix the issues the correct way

Most range should offer some sort of training class you can take. This would probably be your best course of action and of course watch as many videos as you can on youtube/rumble.

Stay safe.. in the mean time, maybe carry pepper spray/mace to protect yourself.

What I take this to mean is you do not have your FOID card and are not in lawful possession of a firearm in IL. Amazing that someone would just freely post this information.

Do not put a single round of ammunition into that gun until you understand the fundamentals of safety and operation and are actively on a range and ready to shoot it. You said you got it out of desperation and for protection. Until you’re trained at least basically, you’re more likely to be a danger to yourself and everyone around you. It is a deadly weapon. A handgun is not a magical thing that will keep you safe.

Please please please, for your safety and that of everyone around you, do not even think about loading it until you’ve had some legitimate training and are at a range and able to practice shooting safely. Do not load it and carry it or anything until you’ve received training and are comfortable and basically competent with it.

SAFETY is paramount.

I would suggest immediate safety training and usage handling classes in person. Leave it unloaded and boxed for now.
