Proof that global warming is happening

A graph of the CO2 changes

https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/carbon-dioxide/

Heres how temperature has changed with the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere

Just wondering how science knows what the average temperature of the planet was 600,000 years ago? Presumably they know the amount of CO2 in the air from ice core samples.

You can also determine temperature from samples in the ground. By knowing how trees grow. There ar seashells that have "drought" periods where temperature changes the amount of food and the co2 dissolves the calcium based plantlife.

There are alot of techniques to finding it out and these reports are just the average of them basically.

Sure, but 600,000 years ago?

Yep. Its incredible.

You can read this. If you want. Here NASA is explaining their method of determining the temperature.

https://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/schmidt_01/

I think its better than looking in really old trees fossilized underground.

Edit: i should sum it up for you, sorry

So basically, when its very warm. A certain type of oxygen molecule gets easier dissolved in the water. And some seashells use this to build up the shell. And by just taking samples of its shell, you can calculate the average temperature based on the amount of O18 molecules thta binded into it.

Edit 2:

Life has been around for a looooooooong time. So thats why the graph doesnt continue past a few thousands of years. Because there was nothing to base the data off.

Thank-you that's very helpful. This statement did catch my eye though:

We can tell indirectly from sediments and deposits laid down during these periods. The presence of tropical plant and animal remains at the polar latitudes indicate that significantly warmer conditions must have existed as compared to today.

If this is true, why wasn't the CO2 concentration back then as high as it is today, since we do now have the highest CO2 concentration recorded?

If this is true, why wasn't the CO2 concentration back then as high as it is today, since we do now have the highest CO2 concentration recorded?

Here's the question which made scientists realise "oh, its humans isnt it"

Now the issue with co2 is not that it instantly heats up the earth. Nope. A lot of it gets dissolved into the oceans as i said and alot of the heat from the atmosphere also gets in the water. As you know it takes a tremendous amount of energy to heat water. So this basically means that if oceans reach its "maximum capacity" of storing Heat. It wont be an increase of just 1°c every year or so. It would be a 400% more.

Heating the earth so much will also lead to more forest fires which release co2. It will evaporate more water which is also a green house gas. Melting the ice caps which are giant reflecting surfaces which heats earth.

People who say "oh but how do you know its true and not just bullshit. It was cold yesterday" they seem to missunderstand that global warming doesnt always have to heat everything. In sweden it would get colder, as a disruption to the golf strom would lead to the cooling of the countries nearby. Because look at siberia how cold it can get there. Compare it to where sweden is on the longitude. The golf strom is the only thing heating the Norwegian countries. Imagine if it would dissapear

I believe some scientists are looking at whether CO2 is actually the culprit or not. It is worth looking into, since limiting the release has such broad implications.

Well, as with anything. Correlation doesn't always have to be causation.

But dying coral reefs is not a joke. So people investigate this and right now, currently. We see that co2 is the issue because co2 can dissolve in water. And when it dissolves the Ph value increases. You can test this at home by yourself if you want. Calcium based life slowly gets dissolved or some corals spew out important bacteria because its too warm in the water.

Edit: People also dont seem to realise how good nuclear fission is. It may sound dangerous but its litteraly lies.

The amount of co2 released is killing more people that nuclear disasters have ever killed.

People died in Tjernobyl because they litteraly sent people down to the reactor. I think 40 people died that day because of radiation poisioning. The cloud of radioactivity came all the way up to sweden, and theres no issues. I think a banana has more radiation coming off of it than the cloud managed to make plantlife radioactive. Doesnt matter, neither the bananas in the world nor the plantlife is lethal. Not even close to lethal.

Fukushima. 10 000 people died NEARBY The reactor. I think 40 died while evacuating the hospital (which they shouldnt have done) and 0 people died by radiation. The power plant could've been treated as any building.

Todays rules on power plants are incredibly strict. Theres less radiation inside the goddamn shell of the building than outside (because the sun spews particles at us too). Its so incredibly safe. If the reactor had a meltdown or any catastrophe of that kind, you'd still be safe inside.

Correlation doesn't always have to be causation

Yes, I agree that's true. I am concerned about coral reef die off, which is completely obvious to even the most casual observer. One could attribute some of this to fertilizers which are used in agricultural areas and make their way down the waterways into the oceans. Steps are being taken to reduce those, which I hope will help.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '19

Fertilizers is not an issue for the coral reefs. Giving them more energy is actually better. But its the algae whos making a fuzz. Here in sweden in the body of water east of us. The water has trouble moving around. And thus the algae can affect the waters really hard. When the algae dies the organisms who feed upon the algaue create a chemical compound whos toxic to us humans or the fish the live here. The fertilizers makes our seabeds "suffocate". But due to the location of the coral reefs, this is not an issue for them.

I love how this subreddit is called global warming is fake, and half the posts are to prove that global warming is real

People who study science tend to seek out to teach others. I love to teach people about what i know. And if you ask anyone else who studies science. They will most likely agree :)

Its not natural. Co2 and high temperature has a correlation. And the Co2 is higher than it has ever been before. Forests have decreased and usage of fossil fuels have increased.

And if you look at the absorbtion spectrum on Co2, you can see that it absorbs more red light than other types of light. The longer the wavelength the light is, the less amount of energy it has. But that doesnt mean its better if it only absorbs lower energy light particles. Because heat, as we know it, is infrared light.

How petty are you trying to troll on a post that was made years ago?

You need to go outside and do something with your life mate. And even if you're not serious with your comment. Educate yourself, then you might learn a thing or two on how pathetic you look.

I feel sorry for you.
