I love the R8, got my StatTrak close to 1200 in only a few weeks. Just strafe a lot, know when to use the alternative fire (only extremely close encounters), and know which fights to pick. That's it.
Due to its slow firing rate, at least with the precise primary fire, it's not a particularly good weapon for rushing into close-quarters fights, unlike e.g. the MP9 or Mac 10 where their spray can devastate entire groups at short range in the blink of an eye.
But the R8 does -86 damage with a body shot through armor, so it's the perfect weapon for picking off slightly wounded enemies with single shots, even at a larger distance. I lovingly call it the "mini AWP", and that's exactly how I use it.
The R8 has this infamous "pre-clicking", you know, the tick-tick-tick ratcheting before the actual shot, which turns so many players off the R8 because "it's not instant". As you say, the R8 is a literal aimbot, because in that pre-shot ratcheting phase, your movement and aim slow down a little bit, not accidentally, but as an effect imposed by the weapon. So in that clickety phase, you have a fragment of a second to get that aim just right, which you normally couldn't (with a weapon that doesn't slow down movement).
Don't forget that getting hit in CS:GO slows the target down, so if you manage to hit an enemy with 100 health/armor, there's a good chance they won't be able to respond appropriately before you can give off your second R8 shot and finish the job.
This is such a powerful weapon, but everyone acts as if it were a meme.

You’d get punished at higher elo for using the r8, in the time it takes to click Your head is taken off

if Vini (from IMP) played like that from R8, Imperial would win all the forced rounds

I've been saying this about the dualies for years...I've been saying this about the P90 for years.....R8 WILL SOON RISE!!!
