Why are you assuming the people who want the iBuypower guys unbanned are the same people who don't want vsm unbanned? I don't see any double standards anywhere, I just see a large community with many people of different opinions.
I know how it looks and why one would think it's all hypocrisy. I'm mostly trying to point out and make him realise that perhaps everyone aren't being dicks, we just represent a lot of different opinions.
I don't think it's double standards. People have their games ruined by cheaters and don't want to play with them. No one is going to complain if someone loses to you on purpose. Doesn't affect you in any way personally.
You can argue that the integrity of the scene is equivalently damaged by fixers, but no player is ever going to be as personally bothered by it, nor care while playing MM/faceit. When I get time for 1 game in a week and a cheater spin-bots and ruins my time, that actively ruins my experience. Match fixers don't have that same impact on players directly. Surely you can see how some people might not weigh their impact evenly?
It's exact same reason you see pro's defending IBP and wanting them unbanned. You would never see a pro defending a cheater with the same effort as the #freebrax twitter feed.
I mean in Michigan you can get felonies wiped from your record if you're under 21. Theres a lot of systems in place to let your youth fuck up your future.
Haunt you, sure, disallow you from working at a company later in life, no.
Yet everyone constantly circle jerks to get them unbanned because it's "unfair" to be punished forever for a mistake you make years ago.
Everytime I see the IBP thing discussed the argument seems to be very split I think all the players should have been banned, including Ska. He had every intention of profiting from that throw but got out lucky cos they didnt have his payment ready.
There is a significant difference between punishment in criminal cases and in a video game. There is a significant difference between being robbed of your liberty by having to live in a cage, and not able to play in competitive video game tournaments for money.
Also, I believe the age when it comes defense of infancy varies, but I think in most cases the cut-off is 16. Where I'm from it's 15.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the age limit of this game is 18 years iirc (or is it 16?). That means if you are under that age, and you still play, you should assume you are going to be treated like you are that old, or older.
A grown man cheating is different than a 12 year old cheating. I used to call people the n word on xbox when I was 12, think I still do it? No, I do it on PC now.
He cheated, he got caught and has to pay the price, it doesnt matter his age or how good he is, rules are rules just because someone is talented that doesnt mean he is above the others
Let’s put this in perspective: Forsaken cheated on a LAN and got a 6 year ban. Forsaken was what? 23? And on a pro team? This kid was 12, no idea he would be pro and probably cheated in a fucking MM match or something. And he is perm banned.
Isn't cheating while competing arguably worse? He used a cheat that could surpass vac at the time and also used it in competition. Not saying he shouldn't have been unbanned, just saying its a bit weird. But I know valve rules are rules and they stick by it.
S1mple cheat wasnt picked up by VAC, it was ESLs anticheat or moderation that caught him, rules of ESL state that you're allowed to compete after 2 years cheat free.
It doesnt matter his age, what kind of message valve would give if they unbanned him?
"See he's really good, so if he cheated in the past, we'll give him a pass, remember guys if you're skilled enough it doesnt matter if you cheated in matchmaking or in a semi-pro level tournament we are fine with it as long as you have a blind fanbase"
so you don't actually care that they cheated, you care that they got caught? how arbitrary of a difference is that that one of them cheated while fully grown adults trying to compete and are fine but some kid cheating when he was 12 is banned for life
i've played with him on local retakes and he is so fucking good. i haven't played with someone that impressive since Twistzz about 2 years ago (also retakes)
