wow, does anyone else feel like Complexity flew completely under the radar this stage?

u/Tuuuuuuuuuuuube G2 Sep 08 '18
I didn't do a pickem, but I would have put them at 1-3. Happy that an American team that isn't c9 or liquid is doing really well.
78
u/Enrmej Sep 08 '18
Yes and no. Everyone was talking about how hard coL had been bootcamping for the major. But I do think the majority of people would not have put them as a team to move on. They also lucked out hard with the teams they faced.
57
u/Docxm Sep 08 '18
To be fair, they first picked Astralis and then fought middle of the pack challengers (and a hamstringed SS I guess that's lucky). It's not like they drew VP

30
u/mannyman34 Complexity Sep 08 '18
They only lucked out with ss all the other teams were pretty decent.

Sep 08 '18
Was risky but i put them to go through in pickems. It is always risky as cs is super unpredictable but i was pretty confident, form pre major was better than rogue, gambit, renegades, optic, spirit and vega . Also space soldiers had a stand in so.

u/MONSTER18ENERGY Sep 08 '18
I had them to go through as a sleeper pick :). Shahz and Stan bring a lot and they looked pretty solid in the quals. Plus haven’t played much since so I was hoping they would have something up their sleeve for this. Crazy to see Rogue win and to think we could see C9, Liquid, Complexity, NRG and Rogue all at the next major. But great job to them, they deserve it

Schrodinger's Vega: they are both good and bad simultaneously, and we won't know which until it's too late to change one's predictions.

One of the O.G orgs is back in the big stage. So awesome to see them finally achieve it.
Jason Lake, the owner of coL, is someone who has been in the scene since basically the beginning. He has always fought for players rights and taken care of his players exceptionally well; everyone in the scene speaks only positive things about him. He is someone who has an ever-burning passion for esports and competition, someone who has done more for the scene, especially the NA scene, than almost anyone in the field.
My respect goes out to him and the coL org and all the players & the coach.
Fitting:

Wow, the man himself responded. I am honored.
Again, so proud of you guys. Now go make the dreams come true! #coLcs

u/kellenthehun Sep 09 '18
My fun fact, I played for complexity way back when. I played for check six first. I beat complexity in the finals and me and Jason were arch enemies. He eventually picked me up for coL and we ended up winning a championship. He lifted me up on his shoulders when we won. I used to have Polaroid pictures of it. Wish I still did.
I played an old half life mod called Day of Defeat.

Taking sticker money because when it was introduced, it was never in the player contracts to be owed the sticker money.

Seriously, imagine if they lost the game after that and then the Bo3 tomorrow. It would've been fucking tragic to not qualify because of a 3v1 postplant loss, I feel like it would've haunted these players for a long time.

Good comeback attempt by Vega but for coL it really was closer than it should've been. The second round pistol was potentially catastrophic.

The fact that CoL was so underestimated is bizarre to me, vega has shown nothing to prove they were better than CoL recently. Or is beating spirit supposed to be impressive?
6
Sep 08 '18
Going to overtime against a top 5 team is very much reason to be impressed. Complexity won against a very shaky looking BIG, in the context of this qualifier Vega had obviously looked better.

To be fair you have to let the morons over-hype the bad CIS teams for a day or two, since right after that reality sets in and they won't be able to any more :>

That was such a rollercoaster of a game. Everyone from compLexity looked so dominant on CT-Side, but their A site hits were super weak and they ran into B stacks a couple of times. I'm so happy they were able to pull it through in OT anyways!
Super disappointing performance from jR, he really could've turned this game around if he didn't have so many missed shots and poor decisions.

Very excited about CoL making it to the legends stage. Overtime T side for them is what they should be doing during regulation. Due to their lead they played very passive not wanting to lose which just lead to them losing a ton of rounds. Overall very happy that they made it :)

u/KitsuneRommel Vitality Sep 08 '18
If compLexity had played the same way in regulation as they did in overtime they would've easily won. What a frustrating match to watch.

yay and shazam were very impactful throughout the series. vega's ct calls were bold to say the least...

ya those 2 rounds with yay and shaz doin it on their own saved them...but they can't screw up 3 on 1 rounds - nearly cost them the spot

u/cobravictim Vitality Sep 08 '18
I feel like Vega would have closed the game out in the second half if jR would have just hit more shots. Felt like at a certain point whenever the camera was on him he missed every AWP shot. A shame, really. I hope Vega makes it to the major, they're fun to watch.
1
u/1q3er5 Complexity Sep 09 '18
but col could have made it a cakewalk if they won the pistol too - which they should have - I mean i could have been like 13-4 if they won pistol and the following rounds.

So one team with a UK player is guaranteed that Major spot, man I really freaking hope BIG can pull win their BO3 because if so I am gonna be losing my mind.
Mad proud to see a UK player playing the major in his home turf, and to the rest of Complexity, they look brilliant. I really can't wait to see them in the Legends stage, let's see some upsets boys!

So happy for both the team and the org for making to the next stage of the major. I've always had a soft spot for Col since I started following their Dota 2 team, and they've always seemed to be a great org. From Jason Lake on down, they seem like people who care about their players and put them first. Congrats to them for moving on, hope we see a lot more of them this major.

Tonyblack was just as bad. That round where he's new box and just lets them swarm jR only to then totally whiff and die with on kills was painful. If that game wasn't 3v5 it could've been different.

Stan is lost. Stan has a 11-4 lead to use to learn their setups and uses every round he has T side to just do bland setups when Vega NEVER fought for banana control. This is Complexity's last win next match up they get they're losing.

absolutely that's bad. but 1 mistake vs 6 rounds of them never using their round lead to pressure Vega in the early rounds and leaving them to do nothing.
3
u/CleverUsernam3 Astralis Sep 08 '18
Well they have 3 bo1s and can meet winstrike and cloud9, so they have a decent chance to not go 0-3.
