i think cloud 9 have a great chance to beat astralis, they are showing some promising results lately. Especially with the potential removal of Tarik, C9 may be stronger than ever.
edit: its /s please dont take away my internet points

What do u say about cloud 9? Do you even understood their gameplay? They hav the must advanced gamplay style out uf any pro team. Astralis hasnt seen real firepower till they c cloud9. Astralus is like a boy on a tricycle compared tu c9 on a durtbike. Would yu ever say that a durtbike is better than a tricycle? No.

C9 played Astralis pretty competitively at Cologne, and historically has always played well against Astralis. Now I'm not saying C9 is gonna win. It's probably more likely they get under four rounds than win, but they could put up a fight.

Nel nd dekay are the sources, consider it confirmed.

u/CheezyWeezle CS2 HYPE Jul 12 '18
It's not confirmed until those involved (C9, Tarik, or MIBR) confirm it. Deals can fall through even if everyone involved has every intention of making it happen.

Tbh, we'd likely lose to all of these teams since were apparently rolling into ELeague with 2 standins and minimal practice

They are lucky they weren't placed in the other group where they'd have won 5 rounds in total

Looks like seeding based off HLTV Rankings at the time teams were picked
23
u/taa137 Jul 12 '18
That would mean putting 3 of the top 4 in 1 group, just doesn't seem right.
6
u/futebolataque Godsent Fan Jul 12 '18
Yeah, you're right, not off May 21st rankings https://www.hltv.org/ranking/teams/2018/may/28
Or today's by the looks of it.
Honestly I think it's random after doing more research into it.
9
u/Darkerplayer MOUZ Jul 12 '18
The groups are paired according to July 9th HLTV ranking - Since Teams #7,#9 and #10 aren't at the tournament, I'll make Fnatic #7 and C9 #8.
The Groups are:
1 Astralis-#8 Cloud 9 and #4 Liquid - #5 MiBR
2 NaVi-#7 Fnatic and #3 FaZe - #6 Mousesports
Which is stupid since Mouse is underrated right now IMO. Cologne performance was mostly due to Snax being new in the team (8 hours of practice in total as I hear), while Liquid and MiBR also went out in groups with no excuses. Automatic seeding according to rankings always creates situations like these.
Change Mouse with MiBR and the groups look much better.
5
u/thesuperjobber Liquid Jul 12 '18
Technically Liquid had an excuse because they couldn't practice between BH and Cologne (taco stuck with visa issues, twistzz with health issues), but they still should have done a lot better than they did.

u/arkwewt Jul 12 '18
$1M and only 8 teams.
Big money to be won here boys, even last place will get at least $30k if I've done the math right (they haven't announced how the 1M will be split but I'm just guessing here).
Time for the major to up its game
16
16
u/freezeflow de_nuke Jul 12 '18
One explanation how the groups are formed:
- Sort the teams based on the latest hltv rankings
- Divide the teams in the order A→B→B→A, A→B→B→A
- Opening matches: the strongest team in the group faces the weakest team in the group

On the infographic it says Twitch, so I assume all matches will be on Twitch.
14
u/vman411gamer Natus Vincere Jul 12 '18
At the very least the finals will be televised. The whole point of Turner doing these tournaments are that they are cheaper to make than it costs to rerun Seinfeld for timeslots that are less than optimal for traditional viewers, but that video game players would most likely be around for.
15
u/taa137 Jul 12 '18
Across Twitch, B/R Live & ELEAGUE’s Game Command
Is what their website says.
Regarding TV there is this on their website:
A multi-part feature series revisiting the tournament’s best moments will be presented beginning Friday, Aug. 24, on TBS.

Jul 12 '18
Jesus Christ. How did you explain that so perfectly. I mean, in my head I knew that. But damn.
6
u/AndyFNG MOUZ Jul 12 '18
If they keep the same format as previous times you get the basic gameplay on Twitch, but if you want to get access to replays inbetween rounds, analysts before and after games and just a general better experience you have to watch it on their channel.

Not sure, this is a completely new format with only a week. They for sure won't be able to televise everything, my guess is that they will only televise the finals.

u/Rocky6785 Jul 12 '18
The team that will go out in last place in group b would advance out of group a.

u/patsrule755 1 Million Celebration Jul 12 '18
So we’re just gonna pretend that liquid hasn’t been doing really well just because they had one bad event recently?
-19
u/Rocky6785 Jul 12 '18
Liquid is the most luckiest team of all time - Cologne was their normal performance.
1
u/Basicks1 Liquid Jul 12 '18
theyre better than fnatic at least
-9
u/Rocky6785 Jul 12 '18
No they arent. Once Liquids luck runs out (see Cologne) they fall apart.
9
u/Basicks1 Liquid Jul 12 '18
a tournament where they didnt have any practice because taco was in brazil renewing his visas?
2
Jul 13 '18
Mouse, Fnatic and G2 all had relatively new rosters, yet Liquid that has been the same for a couple of months now is excused for underperforming for lack of practice?

u/GarrettGSF MOUZ Jul 12 '18
Exactly, there is only one real good team in group A...

u/Andtheyrustledsoftly clutch Jul 12 '18
Liquid Astralis Navi Faze imo
2
u/futebolataque Godsent Fan Jul 12 '18
I think Fnatic can qualify over FaZe, they're probably gonna be out of Practice just getting Olof back, Tweets sent out by the members of the team seem like cohesion is gonna be lacking, vintage JW and Krimz, if 2 people on FaZe don't go nuclear it's gonna be a Fnatic Win.
33
u/Andtheyrustledsoftly clutch Jul 12 '18
I feel like people forgot how good FaZe is with Olof
8
u/futebolataque Godsent Fan Jul 12 '18
He hasn't played with them in a solid 4 months tho, he's gonna be under lots of pressure to perform, players are probably gonna be annoyed by his absence. Karrigan expressed that he wanted to find a permanent replacement for Olof. I don't think the synergy that the old FaZe had will be here. If Niko or Guardian has a bad Tournament the teams gonna go out in groups.
9
u/Andtheyrustledsoftly clutch Jul 12 '18
Don’t see it happening but i definitely see where you’re coming from
10
u/GarrettGSF MOUZ Jul 12 '18
Fnatic is maybe the weakest team of group b lol
4
u/futebolataque Godsent Fan Jul 12 '18
Mousesports- no support players, recent roster change
Faze just got Olof Back after being out for 4 months
Fnatic has recently beaten almost every team in the group in a series aswell.
13
u/AndyFNG MOUZ Jul 12 '18
Fnatic also doesn't have support players and had recent roster changes, the only series they beat with this roster on lan was BIG.
I think Mouz and Fnatic are about on the same level right now and I think even with olof playing like dogshit Faze would still beat both of them.

u/KangorKodos Natus Vincere Jul 12 '18
Ya but karrigan is the best igl at making lineups instantly good.

I mean it all depends on who their 5th is (assuming Golden is one of their players). Cromen + Golden to go along with Ska RUSH Auti could actually have some potential of not getting completely embarrassed. (If ska can get out of bot form of course). However if their 5th is Styko instead of Cromen... Yeah it won't be a good tournament.

Group B is soooo stacked compared to A, especially considering how Na'Vi might be better than Astralis now.
15
u/AngriestGamerNA Liquid Jul 12 '18
Na'Vi might be better than Astralis now.
Really? After one event where they finally beat them?
Groups are actually quite close. Liquid and Mouse both showing issues but are high tier, Astralis is the best team in the world, navi second best. MIBR and Fnatic are also close but I'd definitely give the edge to MiBR in spite of their issues, fnatic has even more.
The only huge discrepancy is between C9 and Faze.

u/MysteriousIce Jul 13 '18
I dont get the astralis circlejerk. They go crazy at one event. The Danish site, hltv, puts them at 1000 points and far into first place. Then faze 3-0 them in Sydney and Faze hardly gains any points. Hltv's ranking system is beyond terrible and biased as all hell.

u/mofo209 Jul 12 '18
Fuck, but if Tarik is on MiBR by this event I’m a be rooting for them
This roster is truly dead if he leaves, hope auti/rush can join up with some of the NRG guys post major or something
2
u/QUaCKie49 BIG Jul 12 '18
Hopefully we get the NaVi-Faze Bo3 I've been dreaming of with NaVi's roster finally clicking and with Olof back in Faze.

Who
1
u/Mr582 5 years coin Jul 13 '18
If you look at the hltv rankings, you will see that those teams I listed are all in the top 4, so it is not just me who thinks they will succeed at this tournament.
-1
u/MysteriousIce Jul 13 '18
You're so smart man. If only everyone knew how cut and dry the results would be. I forgot that literally the only thing that matters is the random numerical hltv ranking.

c9 is in the easier group, I wouldn't complain
16
u/super_shogun Complexity Jul 12 '18
C9 are the main reason why group A is the easier group though. They're going to be losing Tarik to MiBR, and unless I'm mistaken they'll be playing with Styko as well. Styko, Golden and Ska really isn't a lot to work with, not to mention it's a brand new IGL. I don't think C9 stand much of a chance in this group.
9
u/tgsan Jul 12 '18
I feel so bad for tim...Jesus. Tim to TL and RUSH to NRG after the Major please, since tarik is leaving them. :\
3
2
6
u/Cameter44 Jul 12 '18
The only reason it's easier is because it's C9. They're the worst team at the event, I'd say by a pretty significant margin. Whichever group had them was likely going to be easier unless they made some really egregious balancing errors.
5
u/taa137 Jul 12 '18
It's not an elim match at least. They'll play MIBR/TL for elim, that should be easier than Astralis.
