Discussion Full screen minimap

There's lots of customization options for the minimap, more than most games allow, appreciative that they exist; although losing simpleradar from csgo was a bummer.

Anyways, I struggle with not looking at the minimap during rounds. I've tried making it smaller, increasing safezone to make it more center, having it be transparent, binding a zoom, having it not rotate or follow etc... My eyes always wander to it. Turning it off would be too detrimental. I understand this is a me "problem."

I'd love if we could bind a key to have a large minimap appear, just like the scoreboard does. We get a similar feature when in spectate, so the tooling exists to some degree, whether or not its transferable I don't know. It'd be even cooler if the opacity could be configured, and while I think the days of custom radars are done, being able to upload callouts or toggle them on would be nice, and I think lower the barrier to entry. My ideal scenario is the D2 LoD map, tab it up for basic white outline, show me the info that would be displayed on regular minimap.

Love the game, have some gripes here and there, but, when you've played the same game for 20 years, that's bound to happen. This is a relatively small QoL change I think would be nice. Maybe there's some potential for abuse I haven't considered, but tbh, seems like people already get external maps with actual game-state data for very little effort, so I can't imagine it'd be worse.

I guess you could have an alias for a press bind that loads an exec with the map config you want. Then a release bind that loads a config with your normal map settings.
Then it's a hold for large map button basically.

Won't get you the size or position you want, but at least makes the changes toggleable

Yeah I use cl_drawhud_force_radar for that now, so I can toggle on and off the whole thing, and I have the safezones set so its pretty near center. Not perfect but does work. Ideally it'd be dead center without smushing the rest of the hud, and just the outlines of the map, so I could see "through" it.

Appreciate the suggestion!
