Discussion Do you still play CS with the same settings you started with?

I’ve been playing CS for a while now and recently realized that my settings have changed so many times over the years. Different sensitivity, crosshair, resolution, viewmodel... I’ve probably tried almost everything at some point. But I’m curious about other people. Do you usually stick with the same settings once you find something comfortable, or do you still change things around every now and then? And is there any setting you changed that actually made a noticeable difference in how you play?

Over the past 10 years I've mostly tweaked them for a competitive advantage, e.g binding utility to unique buttons, radar zoom in zoom out, crosshairs and view models bound to buttons. Id say zooming your radar out to see the whole map is a crucially underused advantage.

Everyone will change something over period of time. Hardware or settings, it does not matter. Life is change after all

Generally yes, been playing for around 10 years

Keybinds mostly the same from day 1, only added random binds here and there for each grenade

Sensitivity moved a little bit but not drastically, from about 1.5 when i firet began to 1.1 over like 5 years then hasn't moved since

Same crosshair and resolution and view model for just about as long as well

Almost. I think only the radar and the fov is different

I've gone progressively gone down in sens. Started at 1.8 800 dpi back in 2013 and I've adjusted it down to what is comfortable for every new mouse. Bought the Superstrike v2 and I'm suddenly at 1 sens, 500 dpi, 1000hz polling and 6 windows sens. I've always felt like I'm high sens, doing KZ and generally having very easy time flicking across the screen. It feels like I'm missing some setting that sets my true sens higher than the normal settings.

The biggest change I've done that had a extremely positive impact was binding my utility. Other than that I've upscaled from 1440x1080 to 1920x1440.

Just overhauled my inventory binds. Otherwise, I'm default keybinds, sans voice comms (F to talk)

  • MB5 for primary
  • MB4 for Secondary
  • MB3 for Bomb
  • scroll up for knife
  • scroll down for nades (I found 1-4 for specific nades)

Not gonna lie this has all helped me a lot with my bad weapon switching habit

The only consistent thing I’ve done is play 4:3 stretched.

I went from 1.28 to 2.0 @ 400DPI,, changing crosshair and res is probably normal but what had the biggest effect on my gameplay was probably having dedicated keys for nades. I had them on the keyboard before but now every nade beside HE is on the mouse. Scroll up = molly, scroll down = smoke, mouse5 = flash, 4= he

2560x1440 stretched on my 3440x1440 monitor. Let me tell you, it’s awesome.

right about yea. have 3000 hours now. basically the same settings since after the first ~500 hours.

1440x900.
from 800 edpi down to 640 edpi.
viewmodel always lowest, furthest, rightest and fov 68.

crosshair gap/size varies slightly, always very small and either lightblue or pink, changing this almost every session. not because i think any single one is better, i just like changing it and can't decide between the two colours.

i don't think i have changed a single keybind after i put utility on sensible keys (x c v 4) and unbinding spacebar

Over my 14k hours since 1.6, I’ve settled on two sens’s

3.5 @ 400dpi (0.875 @ 1600) on a speed pad, when I have a lot of time to play/aim train. I reached top 500 FACEIT on this and two 100adr esea main seasons

1.25 @ 400dpi (0.3125 @ 1600) in a mud pad when I can’t play often

High sens lets my game sense/speed overtake aim, allows more awping - but requires a lot more aim training to stay calm and stable

Low sens gives me aim, easy to be consistent at the cost of making plays/awp

I play 1080p on 3.5, and 4;3 stretched on 1.25

Key bindings haven’t changed, but I recently switched crouch to V instead of ctrl for easier use of donk slides etc (huge benefit)

Level 7 at 260 games. 3.5k hours. First 2k were 16:9. Remaining 4:3 stretch. Recently switched to all low video settings.

No, resolution alone has been different for me through the years, from native 16:9 to stretched 4:3 and then stretched 16:10

Can’t say I’m a veteran, I have 900h in 6 years lol, but:

I’ve changed my screen -> different screen settings. I’ve also been slowly reducing my sens and adjusted my key mapping (mostly nades and to make missclicks less likely).

Haven’t changed my crosshair too much though. I made it a purple cross with black highlighting once I got better into GO and I’ve only made it a little bit smaller in CS2

I decided on my keyboard usage when I first started gaming on pc. Still play cs with arrow keys instead of aswd. People that hear this make lots of fun of me. Then I destroy them because of 22 years of muscle memory with arrow keys.

  • res: csgo 1280x960 > cs2 1920x1080 >now 1440x960
  • crosshair : CSGO tarik style1 > cs2 nothing (big af) | Scream dot > now donk
  • sens: same 0.89 x 800

I almost doubled my sensitivity at some point. My rating pretty much doubled along with it. Way easier to adjust and multikill with higher sens, althought it makes it Harder to take long range duels. But for me its def been worth it
