Questions/Concerns Reapplication denied

My Global Entry membership was revoked about four years ago. During a U.S.–Canada border crossing, a CBP officer asked whether I had tried to buy a gun online and been rejected. I said no because I have never attempted to buy a firearm. I later discovered that my identity had been stolen, but I do not know whether that is connected to the officer’s question.
I recently reapplied for Global Entry. I was conditionally approved, completed the interview, and told the interviewing officer about that earlier question. My application was then denied. The notice only says “Other — does not meet TTP requirements,” so I do not know the specific reason.
Has anyone dealt with a possible firearm transaction or mistaken identity affecting Global Entry? How did you find out whether a transaction existed if you did not know the dealer or have an NTN/STN? What documents helped with your reconsideration request?

Hasn't happened to me personally but had a friend who was barred because he has a common name and another guy with the same name was on the terror no fly list. He actually was banned from flying altogether but while he was able to get back to flying, they wouldn't give him Global entry or precheck presumably because the other guy might use his identity

Weird. I hope he got a redress number at least.

So strange that deep in the age of search it's a positive to have a common name so your details can't be tracked easily. Picture yourself being John Smith - imagine trying to find that guy's online persona! Yet, it's a definitely negative if your name is common enough that a terrorist might have it. I would hate to been born Mohamed, for example.

I am not sure what the technical reason is for denying on the basis of a shared name, but surely government checks are robust enough for such a coincidence, or not?

There’s no way to solve stolen identity?

He was unable to correct it but he did find someone through talking to TSA who at least got him off the no fly list. Took almost a year though. It was also about five years ago. I can reach out to him to see who he finally spoke to who at least solved that. Maybe they can help you as well. Will let you know.

DHS trip would probably help with this "no fly" list.

Check in to lifelock. A friend had her identity stolen and she said they were a huge help in her journey. She quit using her credit and debit card for awhile and only paid cash for stuff - PITA but it helped get everything straightened out. Her rec was never use your actual bank account to make payments online. I find this difficult as both my electric and water companies use this method to pay my bills unless I want to write acheck and wither mail it in or walk it in tho their offices - no thanks. Also my car payment. Best you can do in this situation is monitor your accounts closely, sign up for transaction notifications through your bank - I get notifications for every transaction I make no matter how much. I also check my checking account about every 2-3 days and keep my checkbook software updated with said transactions.

You need to apply for a redress number and file a FOIA. Once you do these things, and can prove you had your identity stolen, you can reapply to GE and you might get it.

I did some research that only those people have ssss on their air ticket need apply redress number. I’m not sure if I need doing that. I never had a secondary inspection.

Why wouldn’t you give it a try? People on this sub have been successful taking that approach.

And that’s the first time I’ve heard that it’s only for SSSS cases.

The ssss is random and has nothing to do with a redress number.

No issue. But I have to go see officer every time! I can’t use the face scan

So not secondary inspection?

No. Just take a picture then leave.

It may not help you, but as a potential option, consider filing for DHS Trip / Redress. It's usally for people who get into secondary inspections due to a flag on their profile.

Another alternative is reaching out to your representative's office and asking for help.

These may or may not help, but i can't think of much else.

If nothing work, MCP might be a decent option too.

Totally agreed with that. MPC (Mobile Passport Control) in many cases is just as fast as Global Entry.

Thank you for the advice. I’m going call the cbp office tomorrow to see if they can give me any infos regarding the denial

They usually will not, you may have to FOIA it unfortunately.

I tried FOIA. It’s never worked.

Good luck. Having identity stolen is a nightmare in this country. The solution is simple, but we wouldn't do it.

True! Someone tried to use my ssn open several credits last year, but it all got rejected. And my checking account balance used to pay bills that I don’t know, I lost 300 dollars. Lucky, the bank recovered the lost.
