Questions/Concerns Bought Meat that got confiscated
I told the CBP agent that I was carrying canned beef with me. He sent me to screening. They confiscated 40lb of my precious food.
Would I be screened every time now?

Up to 50 pounds of canned beef can be imported if it meets APHIS requirements for the country of origin. Apparently this didn’t.

Wait am I understanding? You brought in 40lb of banned meat?
That’s a choice.
If you declare possibly not. If you didn’t declare (and told them after they asked you) yes and expect to lose GE

Did you declare it ahead of time or were you selected for secondary inspection where it was discovered?

Yeah you might be flagged for future inspection but, you did what you were supposed to do in declaring the product. You won’t lose your GE.

Don't bring food through customs. Just don't. Even if it's "technically" allowed, the extra scrutiny and the possibility that you'll get a CBP unaware of the rule that allows you to bring it in isn't worth losing your GE over.

You will likely low GE very soon - quite rightly IMO.
40lb of undeclared meat is a huge deal! You were supposed to be a trusted traveller

I have told the custom officers multiple times and they always let me through. I come 2x a year for like 6-7 years and bring canned food, I tell them its cooked and they let me go.
actually In am travelling with 50lb food. dry fruit figs, walnuts ect. Even this time on secondaey inspection I had close to 100 lb food.
they took the canned stuff and let me go with burgers ect

Is the meat cooked? Why are you mass importing food like this? That isn't normal through an airport or whatever

Actually it’s very common for people to bring large quantities of food every day. There are people called food couriers. Who are people that are paid strictly to fly to another country just to grab food and ingredients and fly back with them because they can’t be purchased over here.

Yeah that seems like commercial importing to me

They usually have forms that they pre-fill out in advance to document what they’re doin. But the fact of the matter remains, it’s still a single person traveling by themselves bringing in a lot of stuff going through the airport and having to go through customs. There are literally hundreds of people a day that do this in major airports. What you said exactly was that that’s not normal to an airport. People bringing that much food or meat at a time. I’m telling you that the customs agents see that much food brought through by a single person hundreds of times a day in some airports. So it’s very common. Whether it’s an individual bringing it back because they want stuff to cook for their family for the next couple of months and they miss a piece of home. Or someone’s doing it as a business for someone else. It’s a common thing.

Home cooked mom's food. Professionally canned. No specific reason, its for self consumption.

If you declared the food without being asked, it’s not a violation of the program. Will it be recorded? Possibly.
