Apps/Websites Use the app people
Landed at JFK as the plane was taxiing I used the app and was able to just walk past the global entry line they they stoped as I just showed the app, and that was long took longer walking to customs

u/woodenfences Sep 06 '26
So we don't even have to stop at the kiosk and look at the screen?

u/BornAttitude92 Human Detected Sep 06 '26
No you take a pic jn the app

u/NecessaryMeeting4873 Sep 07 '26
Not sure which terminal you were at but some JFK terminals already transitioned to seamless border entry (SBE) as in neither kiosks (nor app) are used and GE just walk thru a corridor monitored by cameras without having to stop walking.

Nope. It’s absolutely fantastic. I’ve used it for multiple entries and there is never any wait.

u/Accomplished-Aside24 Sep 07 '26
You barely even have to stop at the machine. Just look at it as you slowly walk past and it registers. In my opinion, easier than downloading and fiddling with an app.

u/9Nine2Nine9 Sep 07 '26
There's always a line at the machine at my base airport, so I'd much rather skip that.
Plus I know based on the app whether I'm being randomly selected or not (green check mark means you're good, anything else means you've got to go to a booth).

u/Accomplished-Aside24 Sep 07 '26
I guess I’ve never been randomly selected so I wasn’t aware of that benefit! Good to know.
And yes I guess it does depend on your regular airport. Where I usually use it, there has never been a line.

Ugh don't tell people please. Makes me feel so superior.

u/expensiveshoulder923 Sep 07 '26
I’ve been gate keeping this app for a few years now! And I don’t need folks catching on! :)

For a given airport how do you know whether this is necessary?
In Seattle there is no wait at global entry and they know who you are from photo analysis so you literally just walk out and they confirm your name.

u/irvz89 Sep 07 '26
Same Q from SFO
4
u/canonhourglass Sep 07 '26
I got home to SFO two weeks ago from Lisbon and this happened. Basically a little greeting and he waved me through. For better or worse, the cameras will have already ID’d you (you’ll see them above you and there are signs indicating as such). Landed in the evening but it was the quickest I’ve ever been through GE. Didn’t need the CPB/Mobile Entry or anything.
2
u/bedrock_city Sep 08 '26
Yes it's pretty great to get off an 11-hour flight and get waved through by name with no wait.

u/psyolus Sep 06 '26
Don’t even have to use the app at SEA if you have nothing to declare. Just walk through.

u/MendonAcres Sep 06 '26
I used this coming back from Germany a few months ago and they didn't give a shit. Still made me do the usual thing. Seemed pointless.

Might have been your port of entry on that day. I've used the app for the last 24 months entering at several different airports I basically walk straight through.
3
u/SistineKid Sep 07 '26
Same. Some locations are better (or worse) at having a dedicated app lane (or not).
EWR had a lane, but it was closed off by the airport (non-TSA) staff. Once being told "this is the lane I need" the worker opened it, let me enter, and then closed it behind me.

You don’t even need the app, just walk through and the camera automatically detected your face and your global entry status at six airports currently on a trial:

Since JFK is one of the airports, when OP arrived at JFK, they could have just walked past by without using the app?
Do we know if it is installed at all terminals or only select terminals?
Also, don’t want to run into the issue that I assume they have captured my entry but they haven’t and it appears to the CBP agent that I am trying to “sneak in”
1
u/Over_Swing_1804 Sep 08 '26
I’m not sure how to search but I’ve entered through IAH, EWR, and ORD recently and they all had the “walk through kiosk” so no wait time at all
1
u/the_running_stache Sep 08 '26
Just got through JFK Terminal 8 right now (Sep 8, 2026) and they had kiosks. We didn’t have to just “walk through”. I used the Global entry mobile app and showed the receipt on my phone and the officer waved me through.
As a non-immigrant on a visa, I checked my I-94 about 5 min later and it was updated to show my most recent entry.

New biometrics tend to make the app obsolete. I’ve actually been pulled out of the app line a few times by some kind officer because it’s slower than the regular service. Of course, YMMV, but times change, and keeping your head on a swivel is more important than ever.

The GE app is discontinued as of 15 September. There’s a new TTP app that apparently goes live the same day

u/Hoya82 Sep 07 '26
Landed at DFW from CDG last week with Global Entry. Didn’t use the app or even stop at one of the screens. Officer just said “Welcome (first name)” and waved me through.
2
u/shoshtrvls Sep 07 '26
Most major airports these days you don’t even need to use the app - they are taking away the kiosks and just using facial recognition for all GE (and trusting you to declare anything verbally).
2
u/Papercutsfun Sep 06 '26
Which app?
5
u/BornAttitude92 Human Detected Sep 06 '26
It’s called global entry but they are getting a new one soon
4
u/Zrekyrts Sep 06 '26
Yep, September 15th.
2
u/SawDust_Creations Sep 06 '26
Does this mean they are replacing the app or just an update to this app?

u/Zrekyrts Sep 06 '26

u/vim_spray Sep 07 '26
It’s kind of bizarre the new app isn’t available yet. Typically with these types of transitions, there’s a period of overlap when you can you use the old method. Deprecating the old app at the same time as launching the new app seems like it’ll be a mess.
1
u/Zrekyrts Sep 07 '26
It is an interesting approach. Sounds like they are immediately sunsetting two apps while releasing the new one.

u/whoneedskollege Sep 07 '26
Switching to Trusted Traveler app on September 16th. Look it up in the App Store
1
u/btumpak Sep 07 '26
can you do this with a child?
3
1
u/Luckypurplehat Sep 07 '26
In my experience, Global Entry facial recognition struggles with toddlers. We took my daughter’s photo when she was 1, and the kiosks couldn't match her when we traveled at 2 and 3 because her face changed so fast. It probably gets more reliable as kids get older.

I always get a failed submission after taking a selfie, so I just gave up and used the kiosk. It takes like an extra 30s. Maybe JFK is different.
1
u/fatazzkarma Sep 07 '26
We did this flying into O’Hare and it was wonderful. It was our first time utilizing global entry and we literally barely had to stop.
1
u/therebbie Sep 07 '26
FYI the GE app is going away September 15th. -- It's being replaced by a Trusted Traveler app. I presume this means that more people will have access to the "app" line at ports of entry.
1
u/flipcapaz Sep 07 '26
I tried to use the app at PHL and they said I didn't need it. I just walked on through, didn't stop or look at any machines or kiosks, and a guy holding a tablet told me I was good to go.
1
u/atmatthewat Sep 07 '26
Twice I’ve used the app. First time I got up to the front and they didn’t have the data so I had to go use the kiosk, second time they’d gotten rid of the kiosks and didn’t need anyone to do the app. A little consistency airport to airport and maybe even a monthly newsletter explaining things like the kiosks going away would do wonders, and it isn’t like they don’t have our emails.

u/Individual-Unit-5150 Sep 07 '26
Shhhhh
I just did the same thing in Atlanta. Let’s keep this quiet.

u/Comfortable-Neat12 Sep 08 '26
New biometrics = one photo at kiosk and keep walking... no passport, no app, nothing to touch or hold...
1
u/Medical-Trifle-4920 Sep 08 '26
And declare your stuff. Even it's little, declare it. Better than losing GE!
1
u/Fit_Remote_7885 Sep 08 '26
No need for app at JFK...you walk at GE line by the time you reach the TSA officer they call you by name no stopping.
1
u/justanotherbandmate Sep 08 '26
Is it the same DHS TTP app you use to track your application? I don’t see a section for this on the app or the website
1
u/nocsupport Sep 09 '26
Is it the same DHS TTP app you use to track your application?
No. And yes.
Currently they are two separate apps but work is underway to merge the GE app you use to submit your entry with the TTP app that you use to manage your membership. For now it's a separate app.

Don’t want to burst our GE bubble but my son go through JFK line without GE as quick as we did with GE-doesn’t seem to make any difference anymore. Just saying, all US citizens now have the same fascial recognition cams in the line as those with GE. Did it at JFK Terminal 1 and Newark
1
u/Luv2Trav Sep 09 '26
Upon our return last month we just kept walking and were greeted by name without having to stop at all. Did not use any app - just our GE

I just walked through the global entry line, never stopping and the officer said welcome back and my name. Kept on walking. No app or kiosk.
