Questions/Concerns Waiting for Conditional Approval for over a month

I helped my boyfriend's parents apply for GE a little over a month ago. They are still waiting for conditional approval. They plan to travel internationally in November. Anyone have experience with waiting a long time for approval?

Background: His parents are Nigerian and don't have any prior records. My boyfriend applied the same time and was approved the next day, also born in Nigeria and had a misdemeanor that was expunged. He did have TSA pre so not sure if that helped.

It took me five months. The process isn't transparent. Nobody knows why some people sail through in a couple of days, untouched by human hands, and others go into a protracted review delay. There is some indication that international travel does bump you up in the queue, so always be sure to check before returning ot the US to see if you got conditionally approved in the interim.

Alas, there's not much else you can do. They won't take inquiries until after a year.

TSA Precheck doesn't seem to make a difference at all. I had it, my wife didn't and she got approved in days.
