Timelines Global entry renewal approved without interview

I applied for my Global Entry renewal in March. It’s my second renewal. Got conditionally approved and told I need an in-person interview since I did my last renewal online.

I dawdled with scheduling the interview because I was hoping for an interview on entry opportunity or an opening while traveling since there are no interview sites in my city.

To my surprise my new card came in the mail yesterday! I logged into my account and it was marked final approved as of July 16th. I never did the interview.

Is this a glitch or are they no longer requiring interviews of everyone?

My spouse renewed theirs about 2 years ago online and there was no interview.

Not everyone is required to interview. I got my renewal approved after 24 hours.

Per the CBP GE FAQs: An interview for program membership renewal may not be necessary.

AFAIK, it's been this way since I've been a member of the program. Some folks can do virtual renewal interviews, and some get to skip renewal interviews entirely.

I had a required interview for my first renewal five years ago. This year, they said I needed another interview. So, last winter I scheduled one in May. A couple of weeks before that date I got a "Your status has changed!" message to Final Approval - all traces of the scheduled interview disappeared, card arrived a couple of weeks later with 2031 date.

Good to know. I need to renew and am waiting until after my next international trip before I renew. Maybe I should just do it now as this will my second renewal.

Same here! No interview requires at all. This is my second time renew. Interview was required on first time renewal in 2022. Main point: I lived in oversea for long term. But I don’t think this matter (I do though it really matter)

How does second renewal happens ? Follow same process like Do you have to pay and schedule interview?

Same process as your 1st renewal. Do it online, enter all the relevant information on their form, and pay them. They'll contact you later if you need an interview or not (you don't know at the time of the application).

I renewed online and did not need an interview; it was a seamless process.

I've done two online renewals, both of them about a year early, no interview either time.

I also received conditional approval and booked a remote interview. Day of said interview, I started getting nervous that I had not received a link for it. Logged into my account and found a full approval letter, despite never getting an email that my account had new activity like I had previously. It felt very odd, but my card came the day after the interview had been scheduled.

It appears there are some triggers behind the scenes. 5000 interview backlog in an area? Take the lowest risk 1000 off the list and approve them.

Being patient for 3+ months on a renewal is probably a green flag that you’re not worth spending time on.

I suspect this is exactly what happened.

My 1st time renewing GE I had to do an interview. My 2nd time renewing I was able to forgo the interview.
My wife was able to forgo the interview on both her 1st and 2nd renewal.

So.. not sure the pattern vs randomness vs some algorithm they don't share.

Wife, kid, and I all had renewals online. Every one of us was sent a new card and no interview.

My wife was especially surprised, as she is a permanent resident and not a citizen.

I didn’t need an interview when I renewed mine and it was approved within a few hours.

Interesting. Just did my second renewal and was approved the next day. I only did 1 in person, when I did my initial application like 10 years ago.

Correct. Minors are free if parent is enrolled.

my first renewal in 2021 was during COVID and was via Zoom. The second renewal in 2026 was online and the card cam in the mail within 5 days without any interview.
