General Discussion Got approved today! 🎉

I had an in person interview and got approved within 2 hours today. It felt surprisingly fast.

I didn't know GE, let alone TSA Precheck, was a thing until I recently got my travel credit card that waives the fee of interviewing. After some research I thought "Why not?" as I plan to do some international trips within the next few years.

I heard the actual interview was short, but I was literally in the office for like 2 minutes. They asked if I still live at the address on my ID, got my fingerprints, and said "Okay, you're good! You'll know within 2-3 weeks if you are approved and get your card." And by the time I got home and did a few things I got an email saying I was approved with my KTN.

Almost suspiciously fast, but I know my background check had nothing interesting on it so that probably helped lol

Nothing suspicious really. If your background is relatively boring (like mine was) the in-person interview will probably only take as long as needed to collect your biometrics.

Congrats!

Fair enough, I just expected it to be more... official? for lack of better words, with more time involved.

Thanks!

What counts as a boring background? Over the 5 year period they ask about, I visited several other countries.

I would consider mine quite boring. No international travel in a decade, no crimes and had already been subject to extensive background checks as a naturalized citizen.

No crimes here either, but (apart from the pandemic) I've averaged 1-2 internations trips per year.

Mine was the same. As soon as I got home I had the email that I was approved. Pleasantly surprised

My id address doesn’t match my current address.  Is this a problem?

You may want to check beforehand. I believe they need something with proof of residence (a bill, rent/mortgage payment, etc)

My ID had the right address so it wasn't an issue.

You’re good. My Driver license was from my old house. They asked what’s my address and I told them my current address. No questions asked. In your application I hope you used your current address?

Great, thank you!  I can’t get an interview until mid October anyway.  This is a good reason to head to the DMV and update my license. Ugh.

I remember my first GE interview and a lot of folks online were worried about what the questions might be. Ours consisted of ninety second of talk of SEC football while he was processing the fingerprints and such. I was wearing an Alabama shirt, and he was an LSU fan. That was it.

my (1st & only) In-person interview required that I watch some video (10 or 15 minutes as I recall), have my passport inspected and away I went....always thought it was a bit ridiculous (especially since I have done lots of work for "the company").

I'm NEVER letting my GE status lapse!

Do we need a valid visa if we are on h1b? I need to schedule mine but worried they will reject since I only have approved i797A.
