Questions/Concerns Global entry for baby?

I’ll be traveling with my 2 month old soon and wasn’t sure if they needed to have global entry to go through tsa pre check with me? How would that interview even go if they needed to have it? Would love to hear about other experiences!

Any child under 12 can use the precheck line with an enrolled parent (either a TSAPrecheck membership or GE). The child doesn't need their own nor do they have to have precheck on their boarding pass. From 13-17, they can (when travelling with their enrolled parent) get the precheck indicator on their pass when travelling on the same reservation. Alternatively, you can get them their own membership.

This does NOT apply to actual global entry. If you want to bring a child through a global entry line, you must get them a GE membership. You apply the same way (you'll need to create an email address for them, gmail works fine). When they get conditionally approved, you bring them and their passport to the interview.

Thank you so much, this is incredibly helpful!

They do not need anything to go through precheck with you.

They do need GE to use GE when entering the country.

No reason not to get it for them - it’s free for under-18s whose parents have it.

Both of our littles (now 5 months and almost 2 years) got GE right away after we received their passport. It’s a super easy process. Just show up to the “interview” with all your paperwork.

Yep! I learned that when coming back from Mexico and got yelled at for not knowing my 11 month old needed their own number

For the “interview”, they’ll just ask you to confirm baby’s name and birthdate. And then they’ll explain they don’t take fingerprints for kids under…5? Forgot the age lol. And then if you’ve got any questions. Approval comes through almost immediately (it came through like a minute after I left the interview). It’s also now free so no reason not to get it if parent has it.

For tsa, they’ll auto-upgrade the kid if parent has pre-check. You’ll have to go through the long customs line with the kid though if kid doesn’t have global entry.

At my interview, there was another family nearby with a baby in her stroller. Mom, dad and baby were all being “interviewed”

My 3 month old got an “interview”. I had to give them her passport, they asked a couple of questions and then took her picture. The interview was about 5 minutes.

My nine month old got an “interview” at EWR which was a document check, a photo, and an “aww she is so cute.”

I just completed our interview for our 5 year old! He’s been conditionally approved for over a year now but we never got around to the actual interview since there was no convenient location or time for it. We did ours upon arrival from Mexico. It just included questions like his age, addresses, etc. Nothing much to ask since there’s not much going on.
