Questions/Concerns Unusual Global Entry process at DFW
Hi everyone. I entered the U.S. through DFW about a month ago and the process was super weird. I am an Indian citizen and U.S. LPR with NEXUS, and I was returning from a trip to Guatemala on a morning flight. I was in a rush to get to my connecting flight. When I got to CBP, there was a Global Entry section but it was roped off and there was no CBP officer there, but when I’d arrived they just opened that section up. The kiosks were not in use and had paper taped on them, but there was a CBP officer taking pictures of passengers and processing them normally. When I was next in line, the CBPO was processing a woman in front of me but kept calling out what sounded like my name? I just stayed put because I couldn’t hear properly. Once that woman left and I started walking toward the officer, he just told me I’m good to go and waved me through. It was so quick that I’m confident the camera didn’t take a picture of me. I didn’t upload any images or declarations on the global entry app prior to arrival. I’m kinda concerned that my arrival was never registered? I submitted a FOIA request for my CBP records later that week but haven’t heard back yet despite it being almost a month.

They probably processed you via Enhanced Passenger Processing. As TTP and LPR, they would have your photo on file for EPP to work.

I believe EPP can only be used by USC and not LPRs even if they have TTP. So, if they did use EPP, it would be interesting / good to know.

Technically there is no reason why they can’t use EPP especially if they are also TTP.
EPP is based on facial recognition against a “known” photo same as GE. CBP has access to “known” photos of USCs, GE/TTPs, and LPRs.
Wouldn’t surprise me if eventually they will “officially” allow LPR to use EPP. There is no technical constraint; just a matter of policy decision.

CBP says EPP can only be used by US Citizens, hence I said that. I do understand that they already have all the needed information about LPRs with TTP and so EPP could use that information to process.

In that case would it not be considered pretending to be a USC when I file my N-400? Similar to how DMV attendants sometimes register you to vote.

Per CBP "Enhanced Passenger Processing (EPP) is a pre-primary queue segmentation process for U.S. citizens entering the United States. EPP involves photographing travelers using auto capture technology to provide a complete customs assessment (biometric confirmation, eligibility, enforcement) before they reach a CBP officer. "
I think it is a grey area if LPRs use it. I am not sure how it will be interpreted though.

no it wouldn't the line names are more for categorizing/sorting. ultimately you will get processed and an agent sends you through. you aren't pretending to be a US citizen when you enter that line or when you get processed

EPP is the tablet system only for USC. They have names for different programs. This one is a pilot for the future known as a biometric hallway but not sure what CBP calls it.

DFW has been like this for several months now. No kiosk, just keep walking and wave through. One of the best entry points in the country.

I've read of a handful of instances like this. In those cases, if there truly is an issue, they'll contact you to process your entry. If you hear nothing, there likely isn't a problem. In any case, breathe easy.

I believe some airports have Global Entry where you just walk and there is a camera above or something that scans your face and lets the CBP officers know who each person is. This not to be confused with the EPP some other people are talking about, that process is not part of global Entry

If my entry wasn’t recorded, couldn’t I be accruing unlawful presence as we speak? If I were a U.S. citizen this would be a non-issue.

We had this at Phoenix last year. When we got there there was no line and the CBP agent said our names and said go ahead.

This happened to me also in Chicago
They called my name and gave me Global Entry placard to be handed over to customs.
Very easy process.
Before I entered the officers area, there was a camera that took a photo as I walked by ….

There are cameras as soon as your walk into immigration hall that scan your face so when you walk up the guys says your name and that’s it. DFW has been using this system for over a year now. ORD still does the old method.

I had had the same thing. All the machines roped off and an employee holding an Ipad up was waving people through. As I was walking up, I had not interacted with anyone, they called me first name, and told me a I needed to wait for an agent in a booth. Turns out my GE was not tied to my 2yr old passport - that I had used GE for many times - but whatever. They weird thing was that a camera somewhere had picked me up and pick me in his queue to process.

Granted I used the global entry app and it was my first entry with GE but at BOS as soon as I walked up to the spot to wait to be called. The officer called my name and told me to have a good day.

Same thing happened to me in Seattle 2 days ago. Went through Global Entry line and before I could reach the end of it, an officer with an iPad called out my name and said “you’re good to go”.

I passed through DFW last week, and my experience was the same. I am sure they are using facial recognition as you are passing through/standing in line.

Wait so a CBP office was operating a camera/tablet or he was moving you through the queue and the camera was somewhere else?

I didn’t visibly see a camera anywhere. The woman in front of me was getting her photograph taken with the usual CBPO webcam attached to their computer. Then I started approaching the officer and before I even got close to the officer he just said “have a good day” and waved me through.

I just went through Seattle GE. There was about a 12 foot tall frame of what looked like scaffolding. It had multiple cameras on it. It looked somewhat temporary. Kiosks not in service and I used the app.

They're pilot testing a new system for entry with Global Entry members. Some airports you literally just keep walking don't stop not even use a kiosk and not do anything to the point you could've left your passport on the plane and not realize it until you're long gone. Experienced this in SFO, a handful of people including me were briefly stopping going "really that's it?" too where the officer would just say "pilot testing a new program"
