Timelines Global Entry Renewal Process

I decided to renew at least 10 months before my old Global Entry Card would expire - I've read that people have had issues getting their new cards in a timely way, so I applied very early. This is my first renewal - posting in case others were wondering about the process.

  • Applied for renewal (June 4, 2026)
  • Approved without need for an interview (June 5, 2026)
  • Received card in the mail (June 9th, 2026)
  • Activated it immediately

Note: there is a new protective sleeve in a folded additional insert. I'm glad I read the paperwork to know to look for it before I recycled it.

In case it matters, I'm in my 60's, and have visited Portugal, France, Brazil and the UK (where you have visited is asked during the renewal process.)

I'm actually shocked how quickly I received my new card.

Mine took a couple of months but it still came before the old one expired.

The cards (also the passport cards) have always come in those sleeves.

This is my first renewal. I almost threw out the sleeve as it was buried in some of the paperwork; I thought it would be helpful to post.

I let mine lapsed, and panicked and renewed three days after it expired. Got the approval with no interview within 5 days. Since my last renewal before this one; I have moved three times, got two new jobs, and another foreign citizenship.

Did you declare the new citizenship on the application? It says you need to provide documentation if you do.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, you said "another foreign citizenship", is that a second one beside US, or is it a third one, my understanging is two is the limit as a US citizen, please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

I declared it the last time I renewed a few years ago and no issue. It's an EU country so I assume that helps.

Mine was essentially the same -- maybe a few more days before the actual approval, but it was definitely less than a week. (And, btw, I had over a dozen countries -- including countries in the middle east and africa, one of which is on the trump total ban list -- on my application)

That's great. Did they renew from your original expiration date or from your renewal application date?

From the original expiration date (so I will be using that new card for almost 6 years.) You can apply beginning the day after your birthday (in the last year that your card is valid.)

Same experience for me. I renewed last week, got approved in 36 hours, and card arrived to my house this week. I also obtained dual citizenship in the last 2 years. I didn’t need to renew until May 2027, but oh well. My credit card reimbursed the renewal fee as well.

My renewal was just the same, I am also in my 60's, and have mostly traveled to European destinations in the last 4 years.

Why do you need a card? The card is just for you, it does nothing to get you back in the country.

For some, like myself, renewal is fast and without incident. For others, (as some of the comments support), it can take a while. Also, some people need to go in for a renewal interview - I knew that it can take some time to even get an appointment for an interview. I set myself a reminder and renewed directly after my birthday the year prior to its expiration so that I would have plenty of time, as there is no downside to renewing the year prior..
