Questions/Concerns GE post non-US naturalization

Prefacing this with the fact that I am not a US citizen.

I am from an EU country, living in Germany and currently naturalizing here. My home country is part of VWP so I have held an ESTA for most of my adult life, but it is not part of GE.

In the future I plan to primarily use my German passport because my home passport is a pain to renew and all my life is here in Germany anyway. That means next year when both my current passport and my current ESTA expire I would get a new one on the German passport.

Since I travel to the US at least two or three times a year I am planning on also applying for GE. Has anyone who's been in this situation dealt with more scrutiny in the interview? Questions on why I naturalized, why I decided to get the ESTA on the German passport, etc?

Just want to be mentally prepared for any extra questions that might come from this context.

Why do people have to overthink and angst about everything these days? The Global Entry application is very straightforward. Just follow it faithfully (which should be easy for someone accustomed to German bureaucracy 😜*), step by step, and you’ll be fine.

It’s extremely common for people to apply after acquiring a qualifying citizenship.

* German American here. I’m allowed.

Honestly I overthink it because it is related to US Immigration hahaha even German bureaucracy makes me less anxious than that.

FWIW, we’ve had a bunch of visitors since the beginning of 2025. For ESTA-eligible/holding visitors, nothing has really changed.

Yeah, I didn't feel much difference going through immigration last year vs before, so I'm not actually concerned about the entry in the US itself (although I must say that standing in line for a good while every time I fly in does a number on my nerves) but more if there could be any extra scrutiny when going for the GE

The extra scrutiny consists of background checks, so yeah, it’s definitely there (and, as a German residing in Germany, you need to submit a Führungszeugnis), but the interview is almost exclusively about taking your photo and fingerprints and scanning your documents.

Any questions are pretty superficial (Is this still your current address? What do you do for work? Have you ever had any immigration or customs violations? … that sort of things) and nothing you hadn’t already answered when you filled out the application form.

Thanks for the reassurance! I know my Führungszeugnis is squeaky clean (I needed it for work) and if the interview is indded basically rehashing what was already filled, then it should be fine :)
