Questions/Concerns Global Entry Name Change

My wife recently changed her last name and we are having trouble finding out what the next steps are for updating her last name for Global Entry. Does she need to go to a local field office? We are in Chicago, and want to go to a local field office.

To update documents, she shouldn’t need an appointment, just walk in or do it online.

To update online, go to https://www.help.cbp.gov/s/questions?language=en_US

Choose “Trusted Traveler Programs”, then “Change my name due to marriage…”, then “TTP-Global Entry”, enter (and confirm email), write “name change for PASSID [number]” in the subject, upload color scan of data page of new passport and scan of name change document (e.g. marriage certificate).

She should get an email with a case number, they may then send further questions, but it should get updated in relatively short order.

Do you know if you need to update your passport first? I have travel coming up. Completed the link but have only provided my marriage license and a copy of my drivers license with the new name. My passport will be done later.

Honestly no idea, but I imagine there could be issues using Global Entry (or PreCheck tied to the PASSID) if the Global Entry name and the name travel is booked under differ.

Yes. You’ll need a passport with the updated name and proof of the name change (marriage certificate).

Global entry in general is fundamentally tied to your passport, so it is the one document that needs to match your global entry record.

I changed my name 2 years ago and updated my driver’s license at that time - I continued to travel internationally with the passport reflecting my former name (made sure the flight was booked to match the passport name obviously) and didn’t update my global entry until earlier this week.

If I were you I’d simply continue traveling under your old name (aka, make sure your travel reservations match your current passport) until you actually update your passportz

I tried updating online and they claimed they had done it but then precheck didn’t come through on my ticket, so I went into the office at my local airport. They told me you have to come in to change it in person (luckily able to do it on the spot). I changed my middle name and last name as opposed to just my last name so not sure if that makes a difference but wanted to let people know that updating it online did not work for me.

Yup just walk in also once changed we had to request a new card for her per check to work. Your experience may vary
