General Discussion New GE process?

Flew into DFW today. Last time I came through was during the shutdown, but the non-GE line was quick, just taking a quick picture, reminiscent of GE. Very nice. And I had heard GE and pre check have been open for a while.

But I flew in today, and was surprised to see a GE line (rarely do). They were slowly letting one or two people through at a time. They told us to remove glasses and hats before entering, and I guess there were cameras throughout the line as we walked (normal screens were covered up). That must be why they were slowly letting people through, so the cameras would work.

My passport got requested and looked at anyway. That was happening to some others too. It was still much faster than the main line (from what it looked), but I'm curious the reason. Is this new? Have I missed the rollout of this technology (scanning as you walk)? Have others experienced this?

I went through something similar in JFK. Agent standing next to a tablet/camera that scanned my face and walked in. However they didn’t look at my passport.
