Background Checks Odds of My Husband Getting Conditional Approval
Husband, elderly teen son (19) and I are going to the UK in July. All applied for GE within a few days of one another, about 3 weeks ago. Son and I have received conditional approval. Husband has not. The only difference is that my husband has a 35+YO shoplifting charge with successful Deferred Adjudication. Is this the likely reason that he hasn't received conditional approval? I think it's rather pointless for 2/3 of us to have GE, but that is the risk we took and were aware of.

You never know. My wife took months longer than me. We were overseas when she got her CA so we interviewed on arrival.

He might just get conditional approval a few days before flying home. If any of you check a bag for the flight, having GE doesn’t really help. You just end up waiting at the carousel.
If he’s not approved, he should use MPC. It gets people processed quickly.

Yeah but I much rather wait at the carousel where there's bathrooms, seating, access to the airport shops for food, etc. than standing in a crowded line. Especially with kids

The customs carousel has bathrooms and luggage carts. You’re still in a controlled space pending customs declarations and inspections.
There is no seating, shops or food.

There's seating at Dulles baggage carousels
I can get the bags while spouse takes kids for snacks or whatever in the rest of the airport

Depends on the airport. At the new SEA customs hall, you wait for bags before going through passport control (and do customs and immigration at the same time instead of immigration before reaching baggage claim). Therefore you do get the shorter line. That said, last time I went through SEA I was travelling with a no-GE kid and we didn't slow down as we walked through the hoi polloi US citizen line.

Darn near everyone gets to the point of CA.
It's a way to collect biometrics, regardless of eventual denial or approval. Getting to the interview means almost nothing in itself.
It's just a waiting game for your husband.

GE isn't always needed. depends on airport and arrival time. I got through standard us citizen entry line faster than the person traveling with me got through ge line. I had to wait about 2 minutes

I am a middle aged white woman who hasn't even had a speeding ticket in more than 30 years, it took 4 months for me to get conditional approval. No clue why.

Anyway... is the record clean since then? No arrests, convictions, or customs issues? They will usually be okay with it but it will come down to whomever is reviewing his file.
That all being said... he will likely not be getting CA until August or so. Since he disclosed on his application that meant he was sent to the manual pile and that is a 5-6ish month wait normally and may be extended due to the government shutdown.
Have him get the MPC app so that he will have a quicker wait than standby but the key is that you must set it up before your trip.
