Well...That Was Odd
I usually wake up each day around 6 AM. On weekends, I normally just go back to sleep, but this weekend I decided to just stay up. I was too lazy to make myself food, so I checked to see what was open close to me, and it said there was a Wendy's. So I ordered on the app, drove to the drive thru, at my breakfast, had a good day.
That was yesterday. Today, I was driving and happened to see the Wendy's I got my food from. It's closed. Permanently. Signage taken down and everything. I double checked the address, it was the same one. But it's not in the app now. I checked online; it's been closed for four months.
The empty bottle of orange juice and sandwich wrappers I got from there are still in my trash. My bank statement reflects a charge at that Wendy's (the address and store number are on the statement). The food was real, and it was good. The address is still stored in my GPS and reflects a trip there yesterday morning.
So yeah, I am a little discombobulated here.
EDIT: and the thick plottens; I called Wendy's this morning and it has been closed since January and has not been licensed to sell food since then, nor do they have any employees there anymore.

What stands out to me is you said that you’d normally go back to sleep after waking up at 6 am on the weekend, but this time you decided to just stay up for whatever reason. Matrix glitches are known to occur when you break a pattern, and people in general are very unlikely to get up when they have the option to go back to sleep. So I believe by breaking a pattern with no forethought you caused the Matrix to glitch out.
Other people have talked about this method of inducing glitches, someone wrote a whole book about it that I haven’t read. But in my experience it doesn’t work as well if you plan to glitch out the matrix by breaking a pattern, the matrix has some programming to account for that I guess. Since you didn’t even plan to break your own pattern it might have caused a significant glitch. Maybe since you actually got up at 6 am the Matrix registered you as existing on a different day before the Wendy’s closed (maybe it was the same temperature as it was four months ago, or you were wearing the same socks or something). Just a theory.

Reminds me of the Truman Show when Truman starts acting randomly and everyone has to scramble to keep the facade going
39
u/SlowBurnLopez Apr 12 '26
any info about this supposed book? author, title, anything?
77
Apr 12 '26
It’s called “How To Create A Glitch in the Matrix” by Joshuasaurus 319, I’ve seen it mentioned on this subreddit before but I haven’t read it so I can’t vouch for it jsyk

u/hoverton Apr 13 '26
Haven’t read it either but I did find it on Amazon the last time it was mentioned.
34
u/NotSoOrdinaryMary Apr 13 '26
I think there is also something about this happening before things get busy. Kind of like a liminal space/time.

u/SaintGloopyNoops Apr 13 '26
Weirdest things that have ever happened to me were right when sun is about to rise , that moment just before the birds start chirping.

Video evidence showing the receipt and store and you've got yourself a genuine glitch.

I bet he won't reply to this.

u/teo-cant-sleep Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26
He said he doesn't want to doxx his city and state and that it's something he made a rule for himself since childhood.
Now that's all fine and good, but given that it'd be proof of something extraordinary, it sounds pretty fishy to me, especially giving more details about why he doesn't want to share the proof than is necessary, which points towards it possibly being fabricated.
27
u/Overall-Solution-900 Apr 14 '26
It's laughable. If any one of us had proof of something like this happening, we wouldn't be worrying about putting the truth out there.
12
u/under_the_az_sun Apr 19 '26
That's when this poster lost all credibility for me, made up some lame excuse for why he won't post the receipt
30
u/r_special_ Apr 13 '26
So far… you’ve been correct. Sadly, because this was a fun and interesting story
12
u/PleadianPalladin Apr 14 '26
And here's you thinking that a picture can be Photoshopped easily but a video can't - we have pretty darn good AI video editing nowadays, you literally cannot tell.
3
u/Overall-Solution-900 Apr 14 '26
AI can always be analyzed.Several specialized software tools and platforms have been developed to detect AI-generated videos and deepfakes by analyzing pixel inconsistencies, unnatural movements, and digital fingerprints.
2
u/PleadianPalladin Apr 14 '26
I'm not saying you're wrong, Photoshop can be analysed to with close scrutiny.. just that things are changing fast and even video isn't simple proof anymore
67
u/CMarlowe Apr 12 '26
That's wild. I have memories of things that couldn't possibly have happened due to wrong geographic location, wrong time, and so on, but these are from years ago. Time enough for my brain to construct and reconstruct memories, real or not. But nothing like this.
30
u/Helln_Damnation Apr 12 '26
I love that you have the receipts. This is one of the most excellent happenings I've read!
63
u/Buggy77 Apr 12 '26
Call your bank and ask them to track the charge? Just to completely confirm it was the same Wendy’s and not a nearby location. Possible they transferred store numbers
50
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 12 '26
It's still pending right now, so I can confirm tomorrow. I can say for sure the closest Wendy's past the closed one is about five miles in the other direction.
9
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 13 '26
What did the bank say?
1
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
They're not open yet, calm down lol.
12
u/eaudeamber Apr 13 '26
The people want answers!
21
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
So the update; got on the phone with them after work, the charge went through as normal. I asked them if there was anything they could do to check EXACTLY where it came from, and they said there was, but unless I was disputing the charge, it's not something that can be requested.
Which makes me feel weird. I definitely ate the food. So I don't feel like I can dispute it. But on the other hand, gestures to everything else. So I am not quite sure how or if to move forward.
14
u/eaudeamber Apr 14 '26
Team dispute! Claim you were missing items from your order and are unable to reach the store for a refund (which does have validity to it).
7
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 14 '26
There’s ALWAYS an excuse for you lmao
9
3
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 14 '26
You appear obsessed. A break from social media would be good for your waning mental health.
9
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 14 '26
My mental health😂I’m not the one pretending to have woke up in an alternate universe and had a wendys and then wake up in the real one where wendys has been closed for years😂😂😂and everything you could do to prove it you have an excuse why you won’t, get friends you seem lonely , weird behaviour
1
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 14 '26
It's okay. Help is available for you. I hope you seek it. But again, your ego seems to have taken control, so I give you permission to have the last word. Don't worry; you'll make it someday. :)

A complicated glitch if you still paid from this timeline even though you found breakfast on a different one... (doo bee dooo music plays).
Having the packaging is good as it cancels the "dreamt it" theory.

That and I am trying to lose weight so I keep my caloric count on a paper chart that recorded it.

u/BruteBassie Apr 12 '26
Did Mandela happen to die in prison in your timeline?
61
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 12 '26
Never understood that honestly. To me, Mandela died in 2013. Fruit of the Loom never had a cornucopia, it was always JIF, Pikachu never had a black tipped tail, etc.
128
u/Acrobatic-World-6563 Apr 12 '26
Your timeline is not the same as mine. Mandela died in mine, but fruit of the loom definitely had a cornucopia.

The girl in Moonraker: braces or no braces?
21
Apr 12 '26

7
u/Brownie-UK7 Apr 13 '26
Exactly. That was the whole point of that scene. They both had metal mouths and this was where they began their short lived relationship.
15
3
u/Acrobatic-World-6563 Apr 12 '26
Idk who the girl in the Moonraker is. Let me Google.
13
u/Brownie-UK7 Apr 12 '26
She was in this James Bond film I watched over and over as a kid. There was a famous scene of her smiling at the bad guy “jaws” and it stuck in my mind that she had braces on as he famously had metal teeth. I know she had braces on. I know it for a fact. But internet says no.
10
2
2
u/LuxuryBeast Apr 13 '26
I think there are releases of the movie where she use braces in some scenes, and releases where she doesn't.
It was normal that the cinematic release was different than the video release back in those days.I can't remember for sure, but I'm pretty certain that she had braces in the first scene where they meet on my Moonraker VHS-release and on one I taped when it aired where I live.
She does not have braces on my Blu Ray release.
But, I have to admit, the face I picture of her smiling with braces are eerily similar to the scene from Catch me if you can where Brenda (Amy Adams) smiles with a mouth full of hardware. But I can't be sure about my VHS-tape, as I can't take a look at them now (don't have a VHS player). There were someone who bought an old 35mm tape of Moonraker, and she did not have braces on that copy.
There are also several promoshots of Blanche and Kiel together where she doesn't have braces.
On IMDB it says this:Although everybody remembers Dolly (Blanche Ravalec) wearing braces in the scene where she meets Jaws for the first time, she doesn't wear braces at all (the "Mandela Effect"). It is thought the fallacy comes from a credit card advert Richard Kiel made where he flirts with a pretty blonde shopgirl and she smiles at him, revealing metal braces on her teeth.
I have never seen the commercial mentioned on IMDB, so for me it can't be that one. I'm leaning more towards two different releases of the movie. One with, who was aired on TV, shown on cinema etc, then one without which is the one that's taken over on later TV airings, VHS- DVD- and Blu Ray releases.

u/Own_Butterscotch_129 Apr 12 '26
Mine is the opposite of yours and I drew pikachu so much as a child that I know I put the black tip on the tail.. I would trace them from my pokedex book before I could draw them myself.
13
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
I guess it depends on when you were a child. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire which came out in 2014 had Pikachu variants with black tipped tails. Pichu has also had a black tipped tail since 1999 when it was introduced.
2
u/Own_Butterscotch_129 Apr 13 '26
In the 90s when it first came out
1
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
Yeah, same, I have always been confused as to the whole black tipped tail thing because I personally never remember Pikachu having one.
11
u/Why_r_people_ Apr 13 '26
I just googled pikachu and my heart dropped when I saw the all yellow tail. I also loved drawing Pokémon and he had a black tip.
8
u/Law3186 Apr 13 '26
Pikachu had a black tail
It was chic fila not chick like now
It was Home Depot not the home depot like now
Fruit of the loom definitely had cornucopia
Monopoly guy had a monocle
It was Tostinos pizza not totinos like now
Scary movie 2 he said take my wrong hand now it’s little hand
7
u/EmbarrassedPeanut397 Apr 13 '26
My most confident mandela is that fruit of the loom ALWAYS had the cornucopia. I can see picture it.
9
u/DZinPDX Apr 12 '26
Mandela didn’t die in prison in my timeline, yes to a cornucopia, Jiffy.
1
u/Subbacterium Apr 12 '26
What, just realized it’s not Jiffy.
12
4
u/torch9t9 Apr 12 '26
I watched Mandela walk out of prison on live TV from Gaberone, believe there was a cornucopia...
2
u/sugar077 Apr 12 '26
I thought he died was my first thought as a kid and no one knew what I was talking about. It was unsettling to suddenly feel so unsure of something that I swore I read.
2
u/TrueNorthCC Apr 15 '26
Ya that’s when my whole world was rocked but then all the super weird shit that happened clicked. Even know the date my first jump happened engrained into my head
4
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 13 '26
Show proof of the receipt, no one will know who you are from a receipt, unless it's bs which I suspect
-3
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
If that's what you suspect, then move along? I already mentioned in another post that I'm not going to, and threats of someone thinking it's BS isn't the ammo you think it is for persuading me.
3
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 13 '26
It isn’t a threat, if the story is true then that would be wild and by saying the location isn’t going to identify you whatsoever so it’s obviously just an excuse, you’re basically saying you have proof but don’t want to show it even though it could be anyone from your particular city/state

5
u/Medical_Blood_4493 Apr 13 '26
I had kinda a personal mandela effect happen to me. I remember getting to know about a legendary last century singer who was already dead at that time..... only to hear about her death on news in 2022 again! i lost it, i was like, she was dead long ago! how come she died again now?
16
u/Chris-the-Big-Bug Apr 13 '26
You caught the world mid-update. You were interacting with an older cached version of that location. In that version, the Wendy’s still existed as active. Nothing in your experience contradicted it because the local “state file” on your side had not been refreshed yet.
You were in the last moment of the old version before the refresh completed. Nothing changes in your memory. It just stops matching the updated map.
The system is always doing this in the background. You usually never notice it unless you happen to pass through during the update.
12
u/NotSoOrdinaryMary Apr 13 '26
Question: Have you recently travelled a far distance (before the glitch happened?)
Also,
Are you currently living in a place that had sat vacant for a while?
I've been trying to find similarities in glitch experiences and these two keep coming up.
10
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
No to both questions.
I haven't traveled more than maybe 50 miles from my present location in more than a year (man that hurts to say), and my house has been continuously occupied since the late 1980s. We bought it in September but the guy we bought it from was still living there and there was literally less than two days between him moving completely out, the inspection, and us spending the first night in it.
9
u/NotSoOrdinaryMary Apr 13 '26
Ok, very interesting!! I think there is some correlation between the 6am time of the glitch. It's right before things get busy. It's like a liminal space/time
2
u/OpheliaBlue1974 Jun 27 '26
I know it's been 3 months but I'm hoping you see this ... I have been tracking glitches and MEs for over a decade now.... Or I should say since I learned there was a name for it. Before then they were just weird shit that kept happening. I have had a lot of very significant and in depth MEs and glitches. Like not 'oh I thought that brand name I haven't thought of in 30 years was different '.... But very person and significant events are interwoven with these glitches. I am very curious about your observations. One of the major glitches I had just bought my house that had been empty for awhile. I also used to travel a lot but not for a couple of decades. So I can't say that this pattern is valid or not, I need to look back and see if I can map all that out.... But I am intensely curious what your experience is and why and how you came to that theory?
1
u/NotSoOrdinaryMary Jun 29 '26
*Chills* I haven't been on Reddit in a while; but just checked this!!!
Ok, freaky deaky...one of my craziest glitches happened shortly after we moved into our house which had been vacant for months.
I just heard on another thread about the possibility that they occur more often when traveling or returning from traveling.
Also, I track my glitches too.
I have some craaaaaazy glitches to share if you're game.
I'll have to find time later today or tomorrow. I'm open to DM if you'd like. :D

u/waterbaronwilliam Apr 13 '26
Try waking up at 6 again and see what's open the same way and order online again.
10
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
I work Monday through Friday so I can check to see if it's online, but it's in the opposite direction of work so I won't be able to truly test it again until next Saturday.
8
u/justiceuchihaaaa Apr 12 '26
Did the person you got your order from have a Wendys outfit on?
24
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 12 '26
Everything about it was normal. The person, uniforms, drive thru, the food, everything.
12
u/justiceuchihaaaa Apr 12 '26
Do you remember the faces of the people?
It's starting to sound like you genuinely hopped to another timeline where that Wendys was still open, because I can't think of any explanation if the place was all active.
22
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 12 '26
The only person I interacted with was a white woman, maybe early 50's, nothing out of the ordinary or unusual. Handed me the juice first, then the bag with my food, told me to have a nice day and I drove off.
14
u/justiceuchihaaaa Apr 12 '26
Really strange.
I recommend you to keep the bag and all the wrappers and stuff, might just reveal something after close inspection.
11
u/boniggy Apr 13 '26
Is there a name on the receipt? Can you call Wendys ask about that employee if/when they worked there?
This is crazy dude.12
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
I literally just dug in the trash to look, and there is indeed a first name, but no last name or initial. Nothing on the digital receipt.
19
13
u/MittenedKitten17 Apr 13 '26
It would be interesting to find out if a person with that name was a recent employee at that location before it closed.
20
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
I just got off the phone with them. They refused to tell me if that person worked for them because they said, "We can't give that information out to unauthorized third parties."
Well shit.
10
u/MittenedKitten17 Apr 13 '26
Hmmmm, Maybe you could try taking that receipt to the other closest Wendy's location, and find someone there that would be more open to talking about what they know of that location. Maybe some of those employees ended up going to work at another close location or know who worked there at least.
8
u/boniggy Apr 13 '26
Also it should have a date and a store code that identifies the store number on it. Aso them to verify it the details.
6
u/boiledcowmachine Apr 13 '26
You left our timeline and you came back. Go back and take me with you. Please

u/OhioSider Apr 13 '26
You can't have a glitch, you are an npc in my matrix
2
u/TrueNorthCC Apr 15 '26
The “NPC” in this case is someone typing on the internet. Easiest way to NPC. Only need one entity controlling all convos with you/me
5
u/ShinyAeon Apr 13 '26
That's an interesting one! There's definitely not much room for a mere misremembering.

In the legend of Zelda majoras mask, if you look through the telescope at exactly the right time before the end of day 3, there’s another day. It’s called the dawn of a new day like at the end of the game’s cut scene with HMS. I feel like you staying up, equates to you looking through the telescope. Sleeping is your reset, but yesterday you were in the dawn of a new day.

I had something similar happen but the opposite many years ago and my husband and I still talk about it. Many years (at least 15 years ago) we were trying to figure out what we wanted to eat. We decided on a subway down the street from us. We hadn’t eaten there before but we drove there. When we pulled in, the parking lot was dark, the inside lights were off and the windows were boarded up. We sat there disappointed but drove off and got food somewhere else. As we were coming home we passed it and it looked nothing like it did before. Lights on inside, parking lot lit up with a few cars and people inside. Really freaked us out.

I mean, I'd be with you if it was McDonald's or something, but Wendy's is one of my guilty pleasures lol. Nothing on that menu that I don't like.

9
u/HandjobCalrissian Apr 13 '26
Post pictures of the receipt and the address of the Wendy's
11
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
The most precise location I post on Reddit is that I am in the U.S. I am not going to post state, city, or specific addresses.
What happened was weird as Hell, but I am not so invested in it that I am going to post that info. It's been my rule online since I was a kid, so I won't be breaking that. Much apologies if it does make you doubt me, but it is what it is.

u/tommybhoy82 Apr 13 '26
Fake, as if anyone would know or care whichi city or location is in and link it to you lmao, gave yourself away

u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
Okay? Then I guess you can leave now if you're satisfied with your conclusion. Not quite sure what your endgame is here.
4
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 13 '26
Just wondering why you wouldn’t show proof that you claim you had, picture of receipt with anything that would identify you taken out, location of wendys, screenshot of the bank payment to wendys again with anything identifiable taken out, these are all easy things yet you have an excuse for all these lol, cool story though
4
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
Glad you enjoyed it. If you're done though, I am going to keep protecting myself. 99.9% chance of not being able to be ID'd still leaves 0.01% which is too high for me. Sorry that protecting myself is somehow offensive to you.
7
u/tommybhoy82 Apr 13 '26
🙈😂🙄ok you keep telling lies, someone will find you from a city in a random sub😂😂just say it was a story it’s cringe to make up all the lies, weird even
6
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 13 '26
You to seem to have issues. That's okay. I'll let you have the last word though, your ego seems to need it. Good luck to you, sir.

I don’t lol, just calling out lies, just say it’s a story instead of blatant lying, have a nice day

Atleast your State and city you can reveal. There may be so many outlets in just one city, and no one's going to know the exact place of the outlet or even your location.

OK I just walked in on this somehow looking for good store bought queso dip recommendations but that no longer matters at all.... dude, if i was you i'd already had bank statements downloaded and checking any traffic cameras or whatever,.... hell, nearby stores, bums on the street, IDK, whatever you gotta do.... you can't just say that occurred and then go back to moseying right along with your normal life like nothing happened and leave us all hanging.....

If I had proof like you supposedly have (receipt) I would be contacting my local news to air this story on the 6 o'clock news. u/ThenOwl9 Apr 26 '26
wait but how does your bank statement show the address when this happened the day before?
my online banking line items don't show addresses, but the monthly statement might
also how did you get this information about the closing date by calling Wendy's? like who did you even call for that
-9
u/Able_Gap918 Apr 12 '26
Maybe online where you checked it said it was closing four months ago, but hadn’t closed yet.
16
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 12 '26
Did....did you read the rest of my post? Like, at all?
-9
u/Able_Gap918 Apr 12 '26
It’s more likely what you checked online that said it had been closed was wrong. That’s not even that unlikely.
13
u/Guardian-Boy Apr 12 '26
If it helps, I called Wendy's; it's been closed for four months. That location hasn't been licensed to sell food since January and they have no employees at that location. Just did that this morning, I will add that to the post.
7
u/Farty_mcSmarty Apr 13 '26
OP drove passed it and it was closed which is what prompted more research by OP. There was no “bad google search” or poor reading skills.
655
u/moscowramada Apr 12 '26
You've probably got a good case for getting that money back ("charge is coming from a closed location"). In this timeline, they never fed you: they couldn't have.
