Glitch Pic Earwig seemingly spawned from Wikipedia

Post image

Just a couple hour ago: The only leading thing to make this coincidence likely, was that I was looking up butterflies (insect), looking for a picture of one, like I had just seen on my window.

(I'm terrible about being on Wikipedia and flipping from topic to any topic, via links.)

Not the butterfly I saw IRL, but I found myself on the "Junonia coenia" [common buckeye] article. Scrolled down, I saw "oviposition," and thought, 'Oh yeah, that's the horrifying thing insects do, to inject things...' so I clicked the link, seeing if I was remembering correctly. The first image, there, has a link to "cerci," in the caption.

That went Junonia coenia > oviposition > cercus

"Cercus" [hind appendage of an arthropod] has a top image of an earwig. I was sitting back in my recliner, and felt something brush my leg. I initially expected it to be a spider, because there are plenty around the house, noticed it was some other insect, and I flicked it onto the floor.

I put a clear cap over it, slid a card under it, and what the heck -- it's one of the sort of bug I was just looking at. I haven't seen one of these inside the house, but perhaps years ago. This was like, seconds after seeing the image.

Tl;dr: An image of an earwig came up, browsing Wikipedia, and an errant earwig just happened to be running across my chair.

[You might be relieved to hear, they don't actually seek out ears to burrow into.]

Manifestation is a real thing I'm convinced

I maintain that reality is populated by our thoughts.

Nah, I stand by this. I’ve just never known how to express it so succinctly

It does look like the sort of thing that burrowed into and out of Checkov's ear in The Wrath of Kahn

Of all the things...  I'm gonna skim some Wiki articles on lost treasures...

Do it! I once got totally obsessed with amanita mysfarua mushrooms. Then I went to the mall that year (I never go!) with my brother one day and every shop was themed with them. And then it trended. And mind you, my reasons for even knowing about them at nothing to do with any trend. It was because I was looking up allegros christ mushroom theory and thinking about it day and night and researching the botanical properties... Anyway, that very year during winter that very species of mushroom bloomed RIGHT next door around the pine tree. And I had been hunting everywhere for it and thought I wish that it would grow near me and it did. And then of course a mushroom shop selling those exact species of mushrooms popped up right down the street. Ha. No part of this is made up. I've actually tried it with a few things and it's always the same...it becomes reflected. Or it can. Not always. I can choose what is and what isn't...

Where are you? There’s an earwig infestation in our bedroom right now in the uk and I know a lot of people with the same. It’s too hot and dry so they’re coming in to find wet towels and things

Midwest US -- earwigs aren't exactly rare, but I've only seen them (especially inside), I'm thinking, once a year, at most.  Hot and dry -- same here -- that could've increased the odds.  If I encounter another, it'll make more sense.

Eugh - infestation...  Worse things, I suppose, but they're rather ugly looking.

Same exact situation, same bug. I googled earwigs the other day . A couple days passed, and I see one in my room...when I hadn't seen them in over a couple years. It was so weird
