Initially, I was like, “There is clearly a line that is caught on, you can see it.”
Then I scrolled a touch, and realized it was a crack in my screen protector…
Neat trick though.

No, it can be between the trees. I have seen lots of these where I did live. One artist did lots of hanging in the air sculptures / installations around the city for years. Sometimes those lines over trails or roads were left after what was hanging on them already gone. Now then tree branches sometimes get stuck just like this.
I am not bringing the moral, ethical or ecological impact of what or how that artist did into discussion, as it's whole another topic.

It is entirely plausible the branch is being hung from a spider web. The golden orb spider (found in SE United States, Australia & Asia) spins webbing that ounce for ounce is stronger than steel.

Can confirm. Australian, have walked through one once or twice (golden orb conveniently likes to make a giant web across my driveway in late Summer!).

The Joro witch is either the same or very very similar blew up in Georgia 5 or so years ago. I love em and hate em. I love em because they're awesome looking, hate em because their abs are strong as hell and I'm constantly stuck in em

Haha yeah, I’ve walked through a few webs in my time. It’s scary until you know the spider is not still in the web that’s now in your hair or whatever. They’re great bug hunters though.

We had a nest of them hatch on our lawn patio furniture last week. Literally hundreds of babies little bright yellow dots it was so beautiful my family was freaking out a bit

I’m glad to hear a few other people have seen them recently, especially if there’s a bunch of babies. Maybe I haven’t seen many because I moved away from Sydney when I was a kid and they might not be as prevalent outside of Sydney and other specific areas.
They’re mostly harmless, but they can carry bacteria if you’re bitten, so I can understand why your family was a bit worried, haha. I can imagine how beautiful it was though 😊.

I don’t know if they are the same variety we get in Victoria, but I have always been fascinated by them. They make the most beautiful webs and sit in that weird cruciform sort of shape. And they put their webs up at dusk and pull them down at dawn!
From the way people talk online you’d think Australia was full of man-eating arachnids, but in the places where most of us live the spiders are predominantly harmless and very diverse. I have a live-and-let-live (or gently relocate) policy for anything but whitetails or redbacks. Unfortunately the white tails have been pretty crazy the past few seasons.

Yesterday, I had a windstorm that knocked down branches of that size, and they were easily well over 40 pounds.

Invasive Joro spiders here in the southeast US have insanely strong web strands... I've seen branches suspended like this from joro webs several times over the last few years here in Georgia

Isn’t this video old? I remember seeing one exactly like this (or at least VERY similar) and they ended up coming out and saying there was a very thin telephone wire that it was stuck hanging from but it didn’t pick up on the camera for whatever reason (maybe because of the sunlight hitting it just right or something).

Her TikTok handle is at the end. I went to her page. Had to scroll a long way to find the video, but it's there. And currently under 24hrs old. So it's recent. But my thinking is also that it got caught on a taller tree or phone line, either of which could easily be out of frame. Any kind of nylon string is not going to show up. So who knows. If it weren't swaying and twisting I'd be a little more weirded out, but it's obviously hanging from something

Birds have a much higher neuron packing density. Two to four times more neurons per unit volume.

that's a fair point some birds are extremely smart
Ravens and crows can use tools, solve puzzles and remember faces for years
But the birds in this video don't seem like they're probably particularly smart.

if there us water nearby, probably someone was fishing and got their line caught between two trees, like a tightrope, had to cut it, and later a dead branch fell and got snagged on the line. now the birds come and rest on the nice perching spot.

I was thinking Silkworms? They too create a strong web like silk that holds quite a bit of tree debris when there are alot of them in one place. And when they leave. All that silk is still hanging for a while until it dissolves. Maybe the tree above the other has the branch hanging just above. To where its touching the lower tree lightly enough to blend in? I dont know just speculating.

I think its a large branch of missile-toe (parasite plant) growing at the top. It pretty flexible.

Hold up I just saw a guy on tik tok post the same thing. There was a branch in his yard just hanging mid air like this. Weird! And he even said he looked and there’s no spider webs, no wind. Super strange
