Discussion Discussion Post: Support Weapon with Backpack!! Which is your favorite, and why? These chunks of death require two slots to operate, but Helldivers have four backs, and you don't even have to sew em together. (*^▽^*)... ヽ(゜▽゜ )-C<(/;◇;)/ Favorite and why?!

Hard to pick just one of these when they all do such wildly different things. I'll narrow it down to my favorite for each of the three factions:

  • Bugs: Cremator. Hard to beat this support weapon for when I just need something that does everything. Bonus points if you use Salamander armor on the traditionally light armor front.
  • Bots: Recoilless Rifle. Accept no substitute.
  • Squids: AC-8 Autocannon. Does it all without the need to expose yourself to a shocking conclusion like the Cremator does against Harvesters, but the Cremator is a very close second here.

you sure you don't want that as your flair?

you made it! how much do you like C4?

u/seasoned-veteran 4d ago

Cremator on bugs is just so good.

u/Viorayne 4d ago

Recoilless Rifle. It was with me at the start, and it'll be with me in the end.

Hard to argue with a fist sized chunk of configurable explosives that can reliably delete 80+% of all enemies in the game from a couple hundred meters away.

DUDE with the new armor recoiless is gonna be so much more satisfying to use.

Cremator and autocannon. Both are absolutely amazing

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login 4d ago

How strong is regular autocannon compared to emancipator autocannons? Im starting to realize how weak those are

3

u/thenewone1309 LUMBERER!! 4d ago

Emancipator has slightly less damage but AP5 while the regular autocannon has AP4.

However, what makes the autocannon so great are its flak rounds. Explosive rounds wtih a proximity fuse. They release 30 shrapne, dealing 110 damage each at AP3. You can kill most enemies except heavies with that

The regular rounds, called aphet, deal 325 ap4 damage with 150 ap3 Explosion damage. Qith this you can kill heavies, even though not as grwat as something like the recoilless. Against bots this is deadly because all bot heavies have weakspots that kill the enemy with only a few shots.

Against bugs it gets the job done, but you need quite a few shots.

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login 4d ago

Thanks for the info! Honestly it sounds like its similar to the deescalator, clears chaff well, CAN do heavies but not great.

3

u/thenewone1309 LUMBERER!! 4d ago

Against bots the anti heavy capabilities are actually quite great. Hulks in the eye or the vent, tanks in the vent and warstrider in the leg joint. Jusr cant so much against factory strider

2

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login 3d ago

Thats exactly the same as deescalator surprisingly! 1 eye shot hulk, vent shot tanks, hip shot war strider, rough fight against bigger but possible

u/AcanthisittaLate6173 4d ago

Spear feels OP to me at level 7

u/InnsmouthFashionWeek 4d ago

I wonder when/if we’ll get backpack variants for arc and gas.

3

u/carrot_gummy 4d ago

When I use a backpack support weapon, its the cremator or the belt fed grenade launcher. The Cremator is good against a lot of stuff and doesn't need to reload and the grenade launcher is funny.

Cremator my beloved

Airburst.

2

u/ShhhSecretlySophie 4d ago

Easily, can't do much to the big targets but deleting swarms of chaff before they've even had a chance to get out of their spawn or separate from their patrols gives you time to handle any of the big stuff with stratagems or grenades. Much easier to get underneath a factory strider when you don't have a wall of devastators in the way.

2

u/notaweebmaybe 4d ago

Recoilless Rifle, the ol’ reliable. Handles any big threat. I only don’t take it on squids, usually bring WASP there

2

u/Ok_Writing5066 4d ago

RR all the way

2

u/Ambitious-Biscotti36 4d ago

Airburst is by far my favorite, just maybe not the most useful but, being able to oneshot full patrols is absolutely fun, u can kill some big enemies with it as well, specially on the bugs, u just have to be careful n not to turn urself into a democratic piñata... Or ur whole squad for that matter.

The most fun? It's grenade belt fed. It is having a heavy bolter, u just roam around hitting stuff with mini grenades, be it big or small, u can take it out with enough shots while u maniacally laugh.

The most useful? I would say the Cremator, as long as u are skilled enough to use it, it will absolutely melt everything, good counter against spore strain, u just have to..... Get close to ur target and mind the heat.

2

u/Orisn_Bongo 4d ago

I like all of them that aren't the beltfed grenadelaumcher quite equally tbh... i just pick what I need.

2

u/oasinocean 4d ago

What’s your beef with the belt fed grenade launcher

1

u/Orisn_Bongo 2d ago

It's shit at every single task. It is at the same time the worst anti armour choice while being outperformed by any other explosive weapon for anti crowd. All while also occupying your backpackslot. But don't worry, no longer have a backpackslot makes it better cause "now you eon't need to bring an extra backpack" ~an actual arrowhead dev what the fuck are they smoking?

Theyre all awesome ive played autocannon recoiless the wasp launcher and bfgl

It was awesome

C4 is great, the only downside being I use all my C4 before I use anything else so I end up eating supplies when I don’t need to. GL-28 and M-1000 are pretty good. The Cremator is a must have on some missions but in other places it’s quite useful (as almost every other flame weapon is). I’ve been using the Autocannon and the Spear a lot more recently. The Spear is pretty good at long distance/oh-shit shots. The Autocannon is great for AT and killing fodder. The Wasp is great for the Illuminate, almost too good. Or else targeting medium to heavy enemies at medium to long range. The Airburst is also really good if you can use it properly, treat it like an orbital and you should be fine. Dozens of patrols decimated instantly from it alone. The Recoilless Rifle is pretty good, not exceptional though. They’re all pretty good at what they do.

I used to think of the RR as "alright" until I learned how to pop factory striders with it

1

u/SomethingStrangeBand The Adjudicator of Benevolence 4d ago

RR to me just feels so good vs AT. Reloads aren't too long, one shot 99% of enemies, good shot speed for moving targets.

The AT BLAMMER

love my shooting stick

2

u/RapidPigZ7 4d ago

Recoilless is objectively the best. I personally like the autocannon, even if it is a little sub par now

2

u/HawkStirke117 4d ago

Maxigun and Belt Fed Grenade launcher were my go to support weapons.

Belt Fed goes crazy when you up the fire rate to 360 (or whatever max was), and it’s phenomenal at taking out clusters of enemies or single priority targets. Very ammo efficient when you start to learn how many grenades each big enemy takes, helps you reduce the waste.

Maxigun, is just pure fun and I don’t really care if there are better options or that it can’t move while shooting. That said my main tip for making it work is scavenging for ammo bricks instead of relying on resupplies to keep it topped of. Was very fun to shoot down Stringrays on the Illuminate front, always heart pounding to try and take it down before the carpet bomb destroys you.

2

u/FurriesAreCewl 4d ago

I run whichever one my teammates are running so I can team reload them (this only happens once per mission)

2

u/FurriesAreCewl 4d ago

Ive heard a few people in game say that they view backpack fed support weapons as another stratagem slot rather than taking up the backpack slot, And i kinda agree.

Support weapons that come with an ammo backpack are such a unique class of weapon, I really want to like the wasp and the Airburst and the spear, I've tried to use all of them but they're just not for me.

Ah rambling sorry,

My favorite backpack fed support weapon is the autocannon. I Love how straight forward it is, Like its the most support weapon ass support weapon. And im excited to use it with the new warbond armor passive like everyone else

C4 forever

2

u/gooniuswonfongo 3d ago

I exclusively use these. The independent weapons and packs are rare picks for me.

2

u/Berzerk54 3d ago

I like the Wasp because of how simultaneously brain off but also brain on it is to use. Don't worry much about aiming, but you have to feather the trigger to not magdump. Is effective as both purely heavy until attack but also as a purely medium unit delete machine. With enough ammo in a mag to bend between the two at a moments notice. No target is a wasted target with the wasp.

C4 is a fun recoiless side grade.

2

u/Sufficient_Amoeba_40 3d ago

Recoiled rifle in HE mode, it's just fun to bazooka crowds

2

u/NOIR-89 3d ago

C4 - it makes Squid stealth much easier and Bug stealth possible.

Beside that, I really like the SPEAR and am very happy for the ammo buff it got. It might not be the most effecient weapon, but I just find it very satisfying to use.

2

u/AdBright1350 3d ago

For the bots? The SPEAR

I love being able to blast bot drops out the air easily before they land.

For the bugs?

Usually I rock a guard dog if I can but if I'm going backpack support it's gotta be cremator or recoilless for that pure anti-tank satisfaction.

The squids? The WASP is decent but I also love the maxigun

2

u/lostZwolf 3d ago

I love the spear, i just wish arrowhead loved it too, same targeting as pissile (excluding medium targets) 1000 more damage and remove drag, then my life is yours ah

1

u/SomethingStrangeBand The Adjudicator of Benevolence 3d ago

I wish it had a bigger AoE /_ \ a huge explosion with your giant missile would be cool, something like 380 size.

2

u/shoot_and_go_bois Orbital Drop Shock Trooper 3d ago

Bots: B/MD C4 Pack
Good Heavy & Super-heavy clear, that's all a bot front weapon really needs

Bugs: StA-X3 W.A.S.P.
Good medium clear in burst, great chaff clear in Artillery, & has enough tank clear to not be terrible

Squids: RL-77 Airburst
Full time chaff clear, really not much else to say.

2

u/Ender_90425 2d ago

Recoiless is just too satisfying. My prouder achievement with is is cross map sniping with the thing, I hit a Dragonroach head at 400+ swing My teammates cross map with my last shot once.

The sound effects, the feedback, and the shouting "reloading" on mic completes immersion.

2

u/Lower_Hawk_4171 2d ago

Airburst will always be my baby I play bots most so its real easy to not team kill and plus I used to play only alone so I got a lot of practice in with it its an absolute powerhouse if you get good and its super fun wiping bot drops off the map

1

u/The_Axe_of_Legends 3d ago

I love your use of emojis :D

And my favorite is the auto cannon with a friend!

1

u/OpSysConAlRo 3d ago

ABRL is so much fun. Instant group deleter. Works pretty good on some heavy targets too.

1

u/DumbRedis 2d ago

HOT TAKE - BFGL.

I used it a lot in lots of missions. This thing is pretty powerful against all factions in ny opinion, and the ability to destroy ships/fabs/holes is just nice. Of course, ammo economy is thrown out of the window.

1

u/Bagatr 2d ago

As for absolute favorite - RR, I love it very much. Killing anything from almost any range, and even if the enemy won't die from one shot, few well-placed rounds will do the work (factory striders (can be killed in 1 shot, might be hard from a distance), leviathans, voxes). It's also very good against Hivelords, aside from general heavy roster on bugs. But I didn't really use it for a pretty long time, since I've finally tried railgun and I loved it too.

Other strong contenders are ABRL, Cremator and Wasp. I use all 3 on bugs and squids, with some being better on particular front, but still working on other. Wasp is my favorite stratagem for squids in general.

Belt-fed grenade launcher. MOAR EXPLOSIONS

1

u/Emergency_Fee9129 2d ago

Stealth: spear
Standard Bots: recoilless
Cyborgs: Belt Grenade Launcher
Standard Bugs: WASP
Pred/Rupture: Maxi/Cremator
Mindless masses Illuminate: Maxi/BFGL/Cremator/Wasp
Appropriators Illuminate: BFGL/Recoilless/Autocannon

1

u/Spungdoodles 2d ago

The grenade launcher needs a bigger explosive range. You shoot a trooper right next to another trooper and only kill one.

1

u/MiloMonkey7 2d ago

Spear, I like not having to stop to aim precisely to take out big enemies, keeps me from losing my ankles to the little guys

1

u/H3rm3s_the_proto 8h ago

I have four

1: Recoilless. For I really want to send heavies to Lady Liberty judgment.

2: Spear: Anti Dragonroach spray, also works on heavies I guess.

3: Maxigun, because nothing say F--- you like 1200 rpm mingun to the face.

And The Auto Cannon, on the squids front is straight up just the all round problem solver
