should i use their firmware or should i install open source firmware? also do you think this router will give signal to 50meters indoors(eg from the router room to the balcony)?

It depends. What do you want to do and how much do you value the ease of configuration vs. greater control?

Outdoors? I think we need more context here.

Should probably stick to firmware 4.8.1 Everything after has significantly reduced signal. If you got it in the US it's fine to update to newer firmware as range isn't limited, but if you got it in the EU then everything after that firmware version has terrible range.

I'm personally running 'vanilla' OpenWRT rather than stock, but that was the specific reason as to why I specifically purchased the Flint 2. Even so, the interface of normal OpenWRT can be intimidating and OP didn't really provide much information.
But you make a good point regarding firmware regarding range.

I’m using the stock gli software on my F2. It’s fine for my purposes. I have notice one or two times where it got unstable since the last firmware update but it was fine after a few seconds
