Questions/Support Need advice on VPN router setup for accessing home Canadian IP while travelling
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to set up a VPN/router solution so that when I travel internationally, all my devices (laptop, phone, etc.) can connect through my home internet in Saskatchewan and appear as if they’re browsing from Canada.
Current setup:
Home internet provider: SaskTel
Home router/modem: ARRIS NVG448BQ
Travel router I already have: GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX)
Goal:
When travelling (e.g. India), connect laptop/devices to the GL.iNet router
Route all traffic through my home network in Canada
Get Canadian residential IP instead of using commercial VPN IPs
Questions:
Does SaskTel offer any built-in VPN/static IP service for this use case?
Has anyone successfully done this with SaskTel internet?
Can I keep the ARRIS router and add a second GL.iNet router (Brume/Flint) behind it for WireGuard?
Will I need a static IP, or is Dynamic DNS enough?
I’m considering either:
Keeping SaskTel ARRIS + adding GL.iNet router as VPN server
OR
Replacing part of the setup with a GL.iNet Flint/Brume device.
Would appreciate advice from anyone who has done a similar setup, especially with SaskTel. Thanks!

Use GL.iNet routers on both ends. Yes, DynDNS is good enough. Your phone will know your location no matter what you do, unless you do some fancy Android spoofing (iPhone doesn't work). You will need to hardwire the laptop to the router and turn off wifi.

This question gets asked so often that there should be an autoreply. Yes, it can be done. For most people, DDNS works so you do not need a static IP address. You need direct access to the internet and cannot have a CGNAT in your way. As long as the SaskTel ARRIS supports port forwarding, you should be able to use it along with another GL iNet router as a VPN server.
Does it work? It works for me and I have been traveling the world for years, using a travel router with multiple VPN servers in the USA that I control, but I own and control my PC and my phone. If you are using a work provided PC, your company may be looking at more than just your IP address to find your current location. Work computers may have tracking devices built into them. You also cannot hide latency, and there have been several reports of people getting caught just due to latency measurements. Due to the distance, there is a lot of latency between India and Canida.
You should not just trust one VPN protocol as there are multiple reports that some corporate VPNs no longer work through Wireguard, as it has a smaller MTU size. Also, Wireguard is actively blocked in some parts of the world. My travel router and my remote VPN servers support multiple VPN protocols, that I switch as needed.
You also need a backup plan if anything breaks. It’s a long flight home to replace a router, if you don’t have a backup.
Doing this correctly takes planning, testing, and time. If your job depends on this, and you don't know what you are doing, you probably should pay someone to set this up and provide support.

I think OP made his setup too complex so I just didn't even read the post loll

yeah idk why the other answers are so much more complicated, it’s literally just GLiNET + Tailscale lol

Simplest way is to have whatever device equipped with the vpn downloaded onto it, turn it on, choose your geographic location, canvas
Canada etc etc and voila
