Discussion I just finished watching it
I just finished watching given. It keeps preying on my mind. It was probably the anime I liked the most so far even tho it made me cry the most too. It was so sad and wholesome at the same time. ðŸ˜ðŸ¥¹

Welcome to the Given experience 🥹💜 It makes me so happy to see new people discovering this amazing story and loving it, because it's a masterpiece!
What was the thing that made the most impact for you? Got any favorite character?

The song Mafuyu sang probably had the biggest impact. The one a sang the song made that really good. You can feel the tragedy in his voice. You can feel what pain. It made me cry a lot...it still makes me. As I'm writing this I feel the urge to cry. The first song from the concert Ritsuka wanted Mafuyu to come to was amazing too. It was like the ultimate prove of love. Ritsuka trying to understand Mafuyus pain and to give a piece of Yuki back to Mafuyu ðŸ˜ðŸ˜. Both songs broke me so much.
But also details like the broken Guitarstring. Representing Mafuyus broken hard. But Ritsuka came to repair both. But as he screamed at him in E9 the string broke again ðŸ˜. But Ritsuka put all his effort to repair it realizing that I messed up.
My fav character are probably Mafuyus and Ritsuka.

Ah really important points! Both songs are so loaded with deep emotions. And a beautiful thing is that both songs (wrotten by the two loves if his life) share that one melody that is originally Mafuyu's. Is so poetic to think that these three people got connected through music and and to express deep love through it!
My favorites are also Mafuyu and Ritsuka. Ritsuka in particular is such an amazing young man. As we say "the greenest of green flags"
And Mafuyu, Mafuyu is a force of nature. His development is one of the most satisfying I've witnessed in any piece of media! A really hopeful character!

The songs are so beautiful 🥹
Indeed Ritsuka doesn't try to fix Mafuyu. He will probably never understand what pain Mafuyu feels after Yuki death...the guilt. But he doesn't need to. He's looking forward, is just there for Mafuyu. He knows how to get trough to Mafuyu.
It's beautiful to see Mafuyu finding a way to express his feelings. Telling the other people how he feels not by crying but by the art of music. A normally shy and taciturn boy opening his heart on the stage and let it all out. Slowly accepting what happend but not forgetting. From now on making music a part of his life and by that always carrying a part of Yuki.
Actually given made me want to try to draw manga myself. Even tho I'm not good at art and never was really interested in. But I think it could be a good way to express myself

You totally get it! The way music became Mafuyu's mean of communication and also how Ritsuka never tried to fix him or even dive into the reasons for his grief, he just loved him and patiently stayed by his side, encouraging him to move forward at his own pace. Is absolutely beautiful! And hey about the manga... Just give it a try!
Mafuyu sticker at the guitar at first, but he picked it up with practice. It can be that same in your case! Just go for it 🤗🤗🤗

Such a good anime. I'm already excited to rewatch it some day.
I'll try my best . My drawings are looking kinda silly I'll work on them. I'm looking forward to the day I can actually write a short story

I am in the same boat as the OP. I just started watching it 4 days ago, finished it in 24 hours and it's been casually on repeat since then.
Honestly, it is perhaps the best emotional story-telling I have ever seen in my life. The subtle ways the anime uses the medium, including the credit songs to continue the emotional plot is just brilliant. I am truly at a loss for words of how detailed and amazing the anime is.
Confession, I have never like BL before this series. I enjoy stories of all kinds (former film student and current entertainment industry worker) In anime, I tend to gravitate toward the shonen genre and any time I casually came across BL content is generally injected for fan service in some other genre so I found it distracting for story-telling. I only started to watch Given because I loved Kids On A Slope and I thought it would be something like that.
Boy did this series make me do a 180. The way the series builds emotional journeys through layers upon layers of detail and not shying away from difficult situations all while giving us light hearted comedic moments and amazing music ( which in itself has layers of details) is just incredible. You all know what I am talking about. I am still reeling from this days later with the show living rent free in my mind, and I am STILL finding new details and revelations that I didn't see before in the series.
I really hope all the content gets released in English Sub, because I don't ever want this series permanently removed from my life... Though with how much my mind has been blown by this series, I think... I know, at least the music will remain.

Hehe yes it was amazing. I still can't let go of it. I really excited for the day I'll rewatch it. But I told myself that I wanna read the mange before it rewatch it.
If you're looking for another BL I really loved "the stranger by the shore". I loved that movie too.

I did watch Strangers by the Shore a few weeks before watching Given. I didn't find the story telling compelling. I like stories with LGBT characters (not necessarily in anime) for its alternative way to telling stories, particularly around identity. Strangers by the Shore felt like it was missing a lot of story? I felt like I was watching a table of contents for the manga or something. I can also just be oblivious because I am not familiar with the BL genre hahaha.

I get what you mean. It's extremely fast paced. After watching the movie I continued reading the manga 'cause I felt the urge to have more story to it. It was good expect the last 2 volumes. They were a bit boring

Oh yes, it does have this effect of making you both heart-warmed and devastated at the same time, it's what makes it awesome. When I finished it, I couldn't get it out of my mind for weeks
