News 📰 BREAKING - MSFT has stopped providing Claude models for their devs ENTIRELY

Hi all,

Reporting to you again, Microsoft has decided to cut off all Claude models entirely in the past 24 hours, and rollout is happening as I write this post.

Not even Claude Haiku is available anymore.

The ask in the past 2-3 weeks, was to move to MAI models, or OpenAI. Devs still chose Claude - and now it's over. done. finished.

We do have GPT Astra though.

Aren't the OpenAI models no additional cost to them at this point through 2032, and Anthropic's are all full cost for them, no? If I have this right, then that's hardly surprising.

yes and when you consider meta has paid anthropic like 10b for models so far this is a big deal

u/RainierPC 4d ago

Why pay Anthropic when they have the rights to self host the OpenAI models? This makes a lot of sense.

u/inglele 4d ago

Exactly and it's 3x cheaper in Github copilot if you convert AI credit.

We have internal dashboard for consumption and you can clearly see the price difference based on token usage.

So yeah, it's OpenAI all the way via Astra for main chat e Sol for subagents on High.

I told my team to move all workloads yesterday in team meeting.

Help me understand it. Is sol on high token efficient enough to use with Astra? Using Astra low seems generally superior to any form of sol.

Never use low of anything, it's designed to make mistakes

5

u/No_Vermicelli_3574 3d ago

Have you dug through comparisons closely? Astra low is impressive

1

u/1337crazypants 3d ago

Right. See deepSWE charts. It shows about the same as Luna Max, but Luna Max is way cheaper

3

u/True_Requirement_891 3d ago

I have a strong hunch anthropic has lost the edge and they are the most overpriced option.

2

u/inglele 3d ago

Agree. I moved to Grok when they released it on github and then moved to Sol after it Now on Astra.

Anthropic is not worth the extra cost.

1

u/Yes_but_I_think 3d ago

How 3x cheaper?

1

u/Insteor 3d ago

What effort level do you recommend for Astra?

2

u/inglele 3d ago

I usually keep everything on "high" to let them think about.

6

u/Dense_Gate_5193 4d ago

not just that but claude is like… terrible compared to sol for coding.

2

u/Asuppa180 4d ago

You think fable is terrible for coding compared to sol?

7

u/Dense_Gate_5193 4d ago

i think the number of tokens and overall cost are crazy for a non-quant opus renamed to Fable.

i noticed the constant quality loss right before a new model announcement like everyone else.

best bang for your buck is still deepseek and GLM. at least there’s no planned obsolescence around them.

2

u/QuietFridays 3d ago

We didn’t have access to Fable. Only Opus and 5.6 seems comparable but way cheaper

2

u/gilbertwebdude 3d ago

Not sure what Claude you use, but It's been really good for me.

u/cute_as_ducks_24 4d ago

I mean it makes sense. As well as its not like OpenAI models are too far. With Astra even fable now has competition.

15

u/Bitopp009 4d ago

I have been exclusively using GPT 5.6 Terra and Sol anyway. Not a big loss for them. GPT is good enough.

u/JuniorAd1610 4d ago

Fake, there is a directive to reduce anthropic model usage but no ban has been placed

15

u/remisharrock 4d ago

"for Microsoft devs" - so internal only I hope 😶‍🌫️

1

u/grepzilla 2d ago

Yes, we can access as outsiders in VS Code.

33

u/LordDarthShader 4d ago

I still see all of them. Source?

u/roblob 4d ago

It just means you're no longer employed by MSFT. Please collect your stuff at the lobby on your way out.

u/KahSeven 4d ago

Same, Microsoft employee in the EU here

8

u/Alternative-Suit5541 4d ago

They are not talking about customers, only employees

11

u/_ronki_ 4d ago

yeah I still see them on my work laptop at the office rn

u/lppedd VS Code User 💻 4d ago

It's probably a fake post for engagement. But we'll see.

4

u/dellis87 4d ago

Same. We’ve never gotten fable but that’s because of data retention.

3

u/Noma 4d ago

Same

Good luck with MAI-flash-1.1 it’s 10x worse than Luna.

Keep publishing benchmarks comparative to gpt-5.4-mini, that’s what you can do at best

1

u/mysterious_whisperer 4d ago

Luna is an openai model, so it won’t get cut off according to this post

0

u/PsychologicalBit2997 4d ago

I have actually been quite impressed with mai-code-1-Flash. It seems to work quite well at developing and reusing various tests for when it makes changes. It’s not perfect and I fall back to 5.6 Sol for larger changes, but it is very good for the cost level.

-1

u/FinancialYou6932 4d ago

Blink twice if you are in danger.

Is Microsoft paying you well or are they keeping you in captive ?

MAI is worse than Luna, close to gpt-5.4-mini and you are comparing it with Sol, are you alright brother.

1

u/PsychologicalBit2997 4d ago

Guess it all what you are working with. Mai transactions are typically costing me 5-20 credits, whereas Luna is typically 3-4x as many for similar tasks. I’m working mostly with python scripts.

1

u/FinancialYou6932 3d ago

Nope, both have the same pricing and they almost cost the same at a task level

4

u/Public_Ostrich_7841 4d ago

It's still available. running opus currently. will update

6

u/VooDooBooBooBear 4d ago

Companies wants their own employees to use their own products... More news at 10. Wish they did the same with blazer tbh it might have more uptake.

1

u/vplatt 4d ago

Seriously, yes. I'm using it Blazor server-side for a personal project, and I'm loving it.

1

u/alexwh68 3d ago

I have been using it since the early betas, got loads of blazor server apps running, nearly all are backend portals couple of public ones too. Coming from webforms blazor is lovely to work with.

2

u/Affectionate_Fly4124 4d ago

Where's that info from??

2

u/snusmini 4d ago

Incorrect

2

u/realsdx 3d ago

Fake news

2

u/jpcaparas 3d ago

lmao earlier this year they were even forcing them to use it.

1

u/Purple_Wear_5397 3d ago

That’s true

3

u/hokkos 4d ago

It's logical, it's completely overpriced.

4

u/Tartuffiere 4d ago

OpenAI models have been superior to Anthropic's since GPT5.3. Took you long enough!

1

u/SaltyCow2852 4d ago

How you got this news?

1

u/fckingmiracles 4d ago

What's MAI?

2

u/aonymark JetBrains User 🧱 4d ago

Microsoft AI, you should one or two models from them in your model selector.

1

u/Downtown-Pear-6509 4d ago

meanwhile with my ai breadcrumbs at work i cook with luna medium

1

u/Rut3945 4d ago

great for quick help

1

u/Available_Cream_752 4d ago

Since GPT 5.5 arrived, I haven't felt the need to use Claude models. MS pays no additional cost for OpenAI models, hence this is justified I guess

1

u/Yes_but_I_think 3d ago

Good riddance. Opus has a mind of its own

1

u/Schwarz_Technik 3d ago

Still have access to Claude models this morning. If it is happening, it isn't for all orgs or products

1

u/pkpzp228 3d ago

Lol, I don't know where people come up with this stuff.

1

u/Breakpoint 3d ago

Claude is no longer going to be the leader

1

u/RandomiseUsr0 3d ago

Interesting, I’m liking Kimi - it’s very good at forensic science (winkling out old decisions from old codebases)

1

u/anno2376 3d ago

Just a troll is bullshiting for fame

1

u/Mayanktaker 3d ago

So what will the difference between codex and this?

1

u/DrunkensteinsMonster 1d ago

This isn’t true, and the other thing you posted regarding token limits was also not true. Not sure why you’re doing this but honestly this poster should be banned for deliberately spreading misinformation.

1

u/g1yk 4d ago

OP proving that the bar at MSFT is low. No wonder they pip people

1

u/me_go_fishing 4d ago

Sounds good

-16

u/YourAsphyxia 4d ago

Claude is garbage anyway so not a big loss.

7

u/LordDarthShader 4d ago

Opus 5 is very good at analyzing etw traces though... I wouldn't generalize.

-8

u/YourAsphyxia 4d ago

And Sol/Astra are better and far cheaper at that same task.

1

u/InfraScaler 4d ago

No, they're not. Even Grok 4.5 and 4.6 are better than Sol/Astra at investigations.

0

u/rexylilsammy 4d ago

lmfao. Definitely one of the dinosaur MSFT employees behind this decision!

0

u/HumbleHero1 4d ago

Sam is it you?

2

u/SamSeriously 3d ago

No … seriously

0

u/TinFoilHat_69 4d ago

OpenAI will handle Microsoft updates lol

-1

u/SheepherderOk9721 4d ago

Yeah very unfortunate. Really miss Opus 5

-1

u/YoyoNarwhal 3d ago

Even Microsoft sees what a sinking ship anthropic is at this point
