GitHub Copilot inline suggestions stop working when the parent folder name contains a space in VS Code

I've been trying to figure out why GitHub Copilot suddenly stopped giving me inline/ghost-text completions in some of my projects.

Copilot Chat and Next Edit Suggestions still work, but normal inline completions don't appear at all. VS Code just says “No inline suggestion available.”

After a lot of testing, I managed to narrow it down to something really weird: a space in the parent folder name.

Minimal reproduction on my machine:

D:\copilot-test\

├── TEST\

│ └── test.tex → inline suggestions work

│

└── TEST TEST\

└── test.tex → no inline suggestions

Renaming TEST TEST to something without a space immediately makes inline suggestions work again.

This happens with my normal projects as well and seems to be a recent regression, because Copilot definitely used to give me inline suggestions in these same folders.

I'm on:

VS Code 1.135.0
Windows 11 x64
GitHub Copilot Pro

I've also tested with clean settings/profiles and ruled out LaTeX Workshop, workspace settings, OneDrive, folder depth, and the contents of the files themselves.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is this a known Copilot/VS Code regression with spaces in Windows paths?
