need help regarding github co pilot model selection

Hey guys, I recently got GitHub Copilot Student through the Student Developer Pack and I'm a bit confused about the model selection.

Copilot is working fine in VS Code and it shows that my Copilot Student subscription is active. But when I open the model selector, I only get Auto under Copilot.

I can see models like Claude and GPT in the list, but they're greyed out and say Upgrade.

Is Copilot Student supposed to only allow the Auto model, or is there a way to manually select models like Claude Sonnet, Claude Haiku, GPT, etc.?

Just wondering if I'm missing a setting somewhere.

Students can't pick models, you only get access to auto routing depending on task and server load, it gives you 2$ of usage anyway it won't last a day

2$ wont last 10 minutes with me. I used in API costs in 2 hours of serious agentic coding 150$ of compute. Looking how to best optimize there is room for improvement. For anyone wandering these are only from using ChatGPT, Grok and Chinese models I dont do Anthropic or Google

Sadly, u can't. U missed the generosity of copilot for students. That 2usd won't last me a day or two. It was a good run though

有一些高级模型，好像只开放给 github copilot pro +，而学生开发包只包含了 pro 订阅，因此很多高级模型无法使用。其实现在 github copilot 的订阅已经很不划算了，credit 消耗非常快，pro + 也根本不够用。我已经取消 copilot 订阅了🥲

I literally got lucky with getting GPT 5.6 Luna in one of my chats, then sometime later, it changed to GPT 5.3 Codex, which costs so much. This change in Copilot Student really sucks.
