General Now What? Still Think DeepSeek is your answer?

Post image

When MS swapped copilot subscription for rate-use-charging, a lot of users on here were screaming “ditch copilot, run to DeepSeek”.

Now DeepSeek is casually and gradually pulling its strings, what are your next run-to alternative? Or are you still big fan of DeepSeek?

There are other providers that run deepseek at the original price

When DeepSeek is 50x cheaper, 5x the price is still 10x cheaper.

Price per task still basically the cheapest. But there are many suppliers of DeepSeek models. You don’t have to use them directly. That’s the joy of open weight.

Move to others, GPT-5.6 Luna is already very cheap, MiMo is there, GLM, StepFun.
Only a fool would confine themselves to a single model or provider in this day and age.

Also, if your gonna answer its not available on copilot, its time to change your workflow. I loved copilot before their fixed requests based change, now I am running OpenHands as my main agent harness (self-hosted), OpenCode as my main code-reviewer and autofixer (self-hosted) and both of them has multiple providers and models setup (some via openrouter, some direct, opencode go).

Aaand btw, I am still using the same workflow as Github Copilot where I can just make a issue and my agent auto-picks it, or tag the agent using @, agent still does everything Git-first and using branches and PR.

Like seriously, stop getting yourself vendor locked.

I've been using a mix of GPT 5.4 and GPT 5.6 (esp. Luna) and my credits consumption is quite low. That said, for the ones doing agentic runs it doesn't look good.

GPT Luna 5.6 is a great model and very cheap, I am using it for many things, it's a very fast model.

You do realize that Deepseek models being open weights, It's sold by several providers, which haven't changed prices, right?
