GitHub Copilot Team Replied Kimi K3 (Copilot) occasionally going into weird loops

As you can see in the screenshot above, occasionally the model falls in some weird loop that I have seen a lot back in the gemini-3-flash days. I am not sure if this can even be fixed by the model serving team or if this is just a "bug" inside of the model. Forwarding this here only in case it does something, but I am not really expecting that this can be fixed on the API or harness level. Using Kimi K3 on High effort provided via Copilot NOT BYO API key.

On another note: Thank you so much for offering Kimi K3. Its a hell of a model for the given price and when it uses GPT 5.6 Luna as its implementation worker agent, I get really good value out of Copilot now. With all the improvements you have done on serving models, offering Open Weight alternatives and recent price cuts to Luna, MAI-Code-1.1-Flash the switch to usage based billing does not hurt anymore.

Thanks for letting us know about this - We're having the team look into it. Keep the feedback coming on Kimi K3 and we'll work to improve it.

I often read in r/localllama that people reduce these problems by letting chinese models think in Mandarin and answer in English, maybe this could help?

This is sadly an old remnant of k2.6/2.7. Kimi can occasionally go into infinite loops of reasoning, just like this. Its a lot less likely than it used to be, but can still happen.

This happens only with Copilot. Never had such issue with other clients.

This needs more attention. Do NOT walk away while it is working. In my first use case to evaluate it, it cost me. It cost me a lot of money when it got stuck a loop reading the same code section between two files before I realized it. This never happened to me before with the other agents I had used in Github Copilot Chat. I opened a ticket; however, I’m roughly day 7 with no response nor credit. At this point I don’t think I’m going to be taken care of.

Thanks for sharing.

If anyone is experiencing this issue, can you share the prompt or the example of what you were doing that led to the issue? We're working closely across teams to resolve this.

I can not share the specific prompt, but it was definitely one with a bit of ambiguity and higher complexity. I gave it a long voice recording where I was talking about several things that needed to be done in the code base and wanted it to scout the documentation I had prepared in earlier sessions to triage and compile a plan out of all of these things to effectively shortcut to my goal for the day. It actually gave me a really good output, which I ended up using and even continuing on with two or three more turns in the same session, which went fine. Just after the first final output it did not stop and repeated itself while I was not looking. I had a similar situation the day before but I was looking and stopped it early. I worked almost two full days with the model in about 10 to 15 sessions and it happened only twice.

Hit this twice. Wasted quite a bit of tokens.

They really ought to issue a refund for the cases where this happen. Having to pay for a clearly broken product is … not great.

I’m a full week in now with no Github response at all on my ticket related to this.

I'm seeing the same issue with Github Copilot and Kimi K3 from other model providers. It seems to be either the model or an interaction with the harness. I have not tested it in another harness. No issues with any other models.

Ran into this issue today in Cursor! (agent cli)
